Fantasia: 'I'm Not Anti-Gay'

Fantasia Barrino caused a firestorm of controversy when she posted a rant referencing gay marriage on her Instagram account. Some fans thought it sounded very anti-gay but the American Idol alum insists she's anything but.

“I Rise ABOVE IT ALL!!! THE WORLD IS GONE MAD. KIDS, THE GOVERMENT, THE church House… Everybody Trying!!!!!!!,” the singer wrote. “It’s a lot that going on that the Bible speaks about we should Not be doing. Weed legal in some places, Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!!! Im not doing Nothing for you… My Life!!!!”

Fantasia's rant was a reference to the criticism she's had aimed at her because she began her affair with her baby daddy Antwaun Cook when he was still married. The two became parents just over a year ago.

The angry response brought about a quick statement from Fantasia's management saying she was a strong supporter of "the LGBT community," and Fantasia herself got back into the fray, posting, "I, Fantasia Monique Barrino, don’t judge anyone because I don’t want to be judged. The gay community is one of my largest supporters. I support the gay community as the support me. Bloggers please stop misrepresenting the facts.”

Don't ask me for the basis of my view if you think you already know it?
What would be the point? For you to accuse me of dissembling?

I apologise if I offended you but I will blame you for one thing only... having had this debate before, you should have simply avoided another one.
You won't change my mind because I too have had this debate. It's how I feel I am quite comfortable with it.
It's simply a rose by another name. I want you to have every right I have.

Now, don't respond to me farther since it's so upsetting. Even if you do, I won't reply.

It's simply a rose by another name. I want you to have every right I have.

But your rose is keeping my rose from seeing the sunlight. If you truly wanted me to have every right you have, then we wouldn't be discussing this. I read before that you don't believe gays should be married but you would be ok with us having civil unions... which aren't equal. Look up equality and than come back.

And the fundamental issue with you and this argument is that you somehow believe gays want to get married in a church, but we don't. We want to be married under the governments law... which uses the word "marriage" in the books. So unfortunately your religion crossed paths with the government and now that word is used in two places. Most gays could care less about being accepted by your church, but we do want marriage under the law.

If you want YOUR marriage reduced to civil union under the government than I'm fine with that. You can have your non-legal marriage at your church and then your legal civil union at the courthouse, but until then, equality comes with use being seen equality in the eyes of the government.

Your church has consistently throughout history made terrible choices when it comes to minorities... so why is this different? In the bible woman are mentioned about 1000 more times than gays and have many more rules that aren't followed, yet that seems to not be an issue when it comes to women's right and equality? Why is that?

I really hope you someday realize that your church misinterpreted its texts and has taken the wrong side on history. Until then, I feel sorry that you see hate where none should be seen and that you can't let people who are different than you into your heart and stand up for their full equality with their government.

And you already upset me, so ending the conversation doesn't change that. If anything I am educating future people who read this thread.
