Fantasia: 'I'm Not Anti-Gay'

Fantasia Barrino caused a firestorm of controversy when she posted a rant referencing gay marriage on her Instagram account. Some fans thought it sounded very anti-gay but the American Idol alum insists she's anything but.

“I Rise ABOVE IT ALL!!! THE WORLD IS GONE MAD. KIDS, THE GOVERMENT, THE church House… Everybody Trying!!!!!!!,” the singer wrote. “It’s a lot that going on that the Bible speaks about we should Not be doing. Weed legal in some places, Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!!! Im not doing Nothing for you… My Life!!!!”

Fantasia's rant was a reference to the criticism she's had aimed at her because she began her affair with her baby daddy Antwaun Cook when he was still married. The two became parents just over a year ago.

The angry response brought about a quick statement from Fantasia's management saying she was a strong supporter of "the LGBT community," and Fantasia herself got back into the fray, posting, "I, Fantasia Monique Barrino, don’t judge anyone because I don’t want to be judged. The gay community is one of my largest supporters. I support the gay community as the support me. Bloggers please stop misrepresenting the facts.”

And some of the best people I have ever met in my life believe in God.

And sweetiepie, I cannot respect the desires of all if the desire(s) conflict with my fundamental beliefs. And while I hope gays are afforded all the rights they need, to not be disadvantaged, I'd rather getting married was not the doorway to it.
That's just my belief, if that makes me stupid, ignorant, old-fashioned or even a cunt then so be it.

Well, as you say, it indeed makes you stupid, ignorant, old-fashioned, and a cunt.

It's bizzarre that you're fine with gays, but not with them getting that piece of paper making them married.

Your beliefs are based on fictional stories. This has nothing to do with a belief in a god.

Well since you said it?
Hahaha... people are laughable the way they confidently speak a pack of rubbish.

are we talking about religious ppl now?

I don't think you fully understand the difference being married can have. it's more than just having a piece of paper, it's also the right to truly be partners in life, to make life-saving decisions when the other is incapacitated.

This is missing words. You don't need marriage to be partners for life.
And if the truly refers to the legal rights, benefits, provisions and exemptions, then I am not opposed to any civil union or partnership enjoying those.
As I have said before here, this is simply about "marriage". I want homosexuals to have every right to act for, in concert with, in consent with and on behalf of the person they love, I just don't want it to be under the term "marriage".
If you don't like that, go ahead. I am not forcing my view on anyone.

not allowing same-sex couples to be married but rather in a civil-union sounds remarkably like how slaves weren't allowed to legally marry. you really do care for your fellow ma.

Are you aware blacks, in the main, are repulsed when slavery and their civil rights struggle are annexed to the gay rights movement?
There is no comparison anywhere, anyhow and anyway.

listen Skippy, what you've been saying since you first turned up here is esentially that you don't care about gay people.
and unfortunately, the majority of the reason that the black community are "repulsed" as you say, is due to the Christian religion forced upon them by those who enslaved their ancestors.

You are so schoolbook scholarly it's almost a waste of time to disagree with you. So let me get this straight the majority of black people are repulsed by something they ought not to because some white men manipulated their ancestors and forefathers with christian ideology?
Oh yes, school really teaches us not to think.

seeing as homosexuality and same-sex marriage was normal in Africa before the arrival of Europeans and their religion, guess what: Abrahamic religion is a huge factor. it was also commonplace in Europe before the arrival of Christianity and the Dark Ages.

"Homophobia is like racism and anti-Semitism and other forms of bigotry in that it seeks to dehumanize a large group of people, to deny their humanity, their dignity and personhood." --Coretta Scott King; front page of the Chicago Defender; April 1, 1998

What else was normal in Africa before the arrival of Europeans?
Slavery? Cherry-picking convinces me of nothing.

And why assail me with a homophobia quote? Who's homophobic? Who's arguing for that? This all or nothing attitude turns me off.

the sad fact is that Christianity has been fucking people over for thousands of years. and until you realize that just because someone else does not love the way you do, does not mean they should be treated as less than you; and that is what civil unions are to marriages: less.

That's a half good way to end this.
