Fantasia: 'I'm Not Anti-Gay'

Fantasia Barrino caused a firestorm of controversy when she posted a rant referencing gay marriage on her Instagram account. Some fans thought it sounded very anti-gay but the American Idol alum insists she's anything but.

“I Rise ABOVE IT ALL!!! THE WORLD IS GONE MAD. KIDS, THE GOVERMENT, THE church House… Everybody Trying!!!!!!!,” the singer wrote. “It’s a lot that going on that the Bible speaks about we should Not be doing. Weed legal in some places, Gay Marriage Legal BUT YET IM JUDGED!!! Im not doing Nothing for you… My Life!!!!”

Fantasia's rant was a reference to the criticism she's had aimed at her because she began her affair with her baby daddy Antwaun Cook when he was still married. The two became parents just over a year ago.

The angry response brought about a quick statement from Fantasia's management saying she was a strong supporter of "the LGBT community," and Fantasia herself got back into the fray, posting, "I, Fantasia Monique Barrino, don’t judge anyone because I don’t want to be judged. The gay community is one of my largest supporters. I support the gay community as the support me. Bloggers please stop misrepresenting the facts.”

But it does. If you're not anti gay, you have no reason to care if gays can be married.
The whole sanctity of marriage bullshit is as ancient and archaic as everything in the bible.

thank you.

Yes but who are you and why do you think your thoughts supersede that of millions. Seriously, why do you think you know more than people way more intelligent, way more qualified and way more enlightened than you.
Who... are... you?

I'm someone who reads the judicial rulings from people who understand civil rights far better than you. Who............................................................................................................................. R U
skonka 1st-Jan-2013 11:44 pm (UTC)
You got defensive in a hurry. What judicial rulings?
______ vs _______?
bittermunchkin 1st-Jan-2013 11:53 pm (UTC)
Answer who you are first, and why anyone should give a fuck about a Brit's stance on gay rights in the US, and then come back once you're up to speed on Windsor v US and MA v US Dept. of Health and Human Services, for starters. I'll wait.
skonka 1st-Jan-2013 11:59 pm (UTC)
Oh dear someone is upset. You don't have to give a fuck about my stance. Who asked you to?
And you'll have to do better than those two matters.
bittermunchkin 2nd-Jan-2013 12:03 am (UTC)
Those two matters draw attention to the discriminatory nature of marriage laws in the US, and Windsor in particular explains why they adversely affect the lives of gay people. How, exactly, is someone who supports making gay people's lives harder via legislation not anti-gay?

Really?
It's unfortunate that the bible and all the religious baggage has made it's way throughout the years.
Overly religious people are not enlightened or more intelligent because they follow the words of man-written book that was created to keep people in line long ago.

What do you care if 2 people of the same sex get married? How on earth is it effecting your life and the people close to you?

Also, you post on ONTD. How are you either not a gay yourself OR straight with nothing but acceptance for gay rights?
skonka 2nd-Jan-2013 01:16 am (UTC)
Had I known you had to be gay or completely agree with each and everything under "gay rights", I would not have lied and would not have been accepted as a member.
Either they erred or that wasn't there.

You could make the same argument in regards to burning witches, legalising slavery, segregation and criminalising interracial relationships/marriage.

Guess what, they were on the wrong side of history.
skonka 2nd-Jan-2013 02:06 am (UTC)
You could but it would never, ever be the same.
abbie 2nd-Jan-2013 02:06 am (UTC)
Please explain.
skonka 2nd-Jan-2013 02:21 am (UTC)
Do I really need to, abbie?
I have spent a fair bit of time responding up and down this page. Can we not just put this one down to this is how I feel?

The same sex marriage debate is of infinitesimal significance in comparison and the views of both sides have merit. In the majority of the other cases cited, though opposite views to the 'right side of history' were made by the educated and enlightened there was virtually no merit to it outside of undiluted bigotry and racism.

It's just not the same to me because the argument against same sex marriage is not, largely, borne out of bigotry. That's my view.
