Scarlett Johansson: Curvy Women are Super-Sexualized

Scarlett Johansson has said that her "bombshell" persona is a result of the way curvy women are portrayed.
The actress, who stars as Janet Leigh in upcoming biopic Hitchcock, appeared in a photo shoot for Elle UK's February issue and spoke out about how her figure has earned her a reputation.

She said: "I think any woman who is curvy and wears a gown to an event is, like, super-sexualised."
Johansson said despite her age, her shape earned her comments in the media from the outset of her career.
"I mean, at the time I was 18, 19. I was young," she explained. "I've always been curvy. It runs in the family. "Throw on an evening frock and it's like all of a sudden you have boobs and everyone is like, 'Bombshell!'"

She added: "Instantly it was 'The new Marilyn'.

The 28-year-old also spoke of her marriage to Ryan Reynolds, which lasted two years from 2008 to 2010, saying she enjoyed the experience but the concept was not important to her.
She said: "I got married when I was young and it was incredibly romantic and I liked being married, actually. But it is different.

"To me, being in a functioning relationship doesn't mean you have to be married. I never think about marriage.

During her relationship with Reynolds, Johansson's phone was hacked and private photographs were circulated online, something she called a "crazy time".

"I had some problems in my family and publicly, my relationship - all that stuff. It was like, 'Oh man, what next?'

"But life has ebbs and flows, don't you think?" she added.

she fluctuates, tbh. when she's promoting and filming, she's much thinner but when she's off she gains a bit of weight which gives her a bit more curve.

I really don't understand the point of your comments these days.
Are you making fun of the reactionary trolls on here or do you genuinely believe women have no right to complain about being sexualised?

There's a difference between having men find you attractive in their heads and them going out of their way to make you a sex object no matter what you do e.g. even when you are dressed down or doing something where they shouldn't be focusing on your looks

Embrace it, own it IMO. When I walk I often feel my power, I can feel my body move (my curves, my confidence etc) and I am comfortable with that. It's good to love yourself and be confident. After all, society spends so much time and money saying what's wrong with us (at varying levels according to race and class), that it's good to be in charge of our bodies and how we feel about them.

Yes. I embrace my sexuality, I like turning heads (not ashamed to admit it), but I don't want to be objectified either. I don't want that to be all people see - go ahead and find me sexy when you see me but know that I'm approachable and I have a brain between behind my pretty face/between my ears.
