I quit a year and a half ago and not going cold turkey but cutting it down slowly worked well for me (each week I'd cut 2 cigarettes off the amount I'd smoke daily). Also, I replaced cigarettes with books (anytime I would usually be puffing away I would read instead), so it was good for the mind and body.

Saved a ton of money, gave myself a $1000 bonus when I'd gone a year without. Could have probably given myself more because I smoked a lot and live in NY so cigarettes are roughly a million dollars a pack.
