Vegan actres Jessica Chastain’slatest role in Golden Globe nominated film “Zero Dark Thirty” was a difficult one. It chronicles the efforts made to find Osama Bin Laden after the September 11th attacks.
In a recent interview, Chastain talked about her thoughts on torture, and how animal rescue videos helped her and directo Kathryn Bigelow et through the particularly difficult torture and interrogation scenes.
Chastain said, “Yeah, very difficult. The other day, somebody brought up a quote I’d said about being vegan, “I don’t want to torture anything in my life.” It’s a quote that has been out there for years, and now you see me in this room torturing someone! (Laughs) But I’m acting, everyone, I’m acting.”
It’s nice to see that the actress stands against all forms of torture, whether it’s from the military or intricately knit into the fabric of our society through industries like factory farming.
She then said about how she and Bigelow reduced their stress during the filming for the difficult scenes, “During the week that we were filming the interrogations, we sent each other videos of animals being rescued. It was so emotional for me because I rescue dogs and so does she. That’s the kind of stuff that was going on behind the scenes. Like, this is not our lives, we are not these characters, there’s a place that is waiting for us.”
We’d love to hear more about their rescue animals, who were probably thrilled when both filmmakers got back home from shooting.
In case you’ve had a stressful time lately, do what Chastain does and watch a thrilling rescue video This one about Billy should do the trick.
