Former Olympic runner admits she was a prostitute

Suzy Favor Hamilton, a three-time Olympian who capitalized on her wholesome image as an elite runner, mother and wife to land lucrative endorsement deals and motivational speaking engagements, has admitted to leading a double life for the last year as a high-priced call girl.

In a stunning confessional via her Twitter account following a story published on thesmokinggun.com, Favor Hamilton wrote that she was drawn to escorting "in large part because it provided many coping mechanisms for me when I was going through a very challenging time with my marriage and my life."

That doesn't fit the average woman working with operations like this.Collapse )

I know she's dealt with some demons, but she seemed to be doing quite well for herself.

She starred in a Nike ad in 2000, a play off slasher flicks. It was criticized for objectifying women.
(Make sure your speakers are turned down - it starts with bloodcurdling screams.)

I feel sad for her...she's from Wisconsin and this has been all over the news here. What a horrible thing to have to deal with. Sad that the smokinggun released this.
vehiclesshockme 21st-Dec-2012 05:09 am (UTC)
Poor girl. :(
furato 21st-Dec-2012 05:13 am (UTC)
I... don't get what's bad about the ad? The way I see it, it focuses on her speed and endurance, sports are generally good for health ("making you live longer") and having the fitness to run from danger when needed is a good thing.
mi_dulce_locura 21st-Dec-2012 05:17 am (UTC)
I remember the uproar was over her undressing. Even if it was down to a sports bra and running shorts that covered more than what she wore in competition.
furato 21st-Dec-2012 05:24 am (UTC)
I considered that, but yeah, what she's wearing wouldn't be out of place on a track. :s
treebraids 21st-Dec-2012 10:56 am (UTC)
I also read something about the ad making light of rape scenarios.
banabee 21st-Dec-2012 05:14 am (UTC)
That's sad. :(

Interesting

If her name is in the paper for this it's only fair that the asshole who outed her gets outed as well. It's not fair that he gets to stay anon while she gets smeared for this.
hahahey 21st-Dec-2012 05:33 am (UTC)
even if she gave his name out, men don't get shit for paying for prostitutes, it's the women who get shamed for doing it. He won't get the backlash she'd get.
haverchuck_bill 21st-Dec-2012 12:56 pm (UTC)
Yep. Men have such a love/hate relationship with our vaginas.
handsdowntoo 21st-Dec-2012 03:57 pm (UTC)
I don't think that's true but I respect she is t releasing it. There was a Zumba instructor prostitite in small town Maine and the male names released are definitely getting stigma and attention. So much so some of the men have tried to block their release legally.

IA so fucking much. Let HIS wife and mother and children know too. Of course the double standard will prevent it from affecting his career trajectory ughhhh....
flawed_x_design 21st-Dec-2012 10:55 am (UTC)
ITA. What an asshole
pikapika217 21st-Dec-2012 05:35 am (UTC)
bless her, may she be in better mental health in the future.
hellolittledear 21st-Dec-2012 05:35 am (UTC)
"I attempted to give her as much of a voice in the piece as possible," Bastone said. "I think we also tried to avoid some of the more salacious details and narratives and reviews that clients posted about her."

Oh you're so nice. Way to be considerate about her ~voice~ in this article in which you drag her through shit just for a good story.
ilikeandrewbird 21st-Dec-2012 05:38 am (UTC)
I feel bad for her family. I feel bad that the story came out like this. I think her public statements were perfect, though.

we all do dumb things. She isnt a bad person.

As an escort/sugar baby, I'm a little weirded out by how everyone says she "doesn't fit the mold". I've seen sex workers from all walks of life; there isn't a certain "kind" of woman that enters the field. :/
sugary_placenta 21st-Dec-2012 05:54 am (UTC)
how much do you make

i have a relative who is rumored to be an escort (which would make sense seeing as how she moved to nyc, lives in a nice apt, and doesn't have a job). she's kind of chubby so i never bought it, but i guess anything is possible. i always imagined escorts looking like models.
trampledmoans 21st-Dec-2012 06:19 am (UTC)
it depends on if i'm escorting or sugar babying, haha. i def. make a lot more as an escort.

haha, i definitely don't look like a model. tbh i never get hit on in real life but i'm doing pretty well for myself.
dubiously 21st-Dec-2012 06:00 am (UTC)
IA but people who really don't know much about the sex industry are just going by preconceived notions and what they see in the media. Obvs women in her position are generally much more careful about getting caught up in a negative lifestyle associated with it or caught in a vice operation than, say, a streetwalker hoping for a bit of drug money. I mean, which type of pro has most of society heard of? The comments in these types of posts can be upsetting at times.
x_neverenough 21st-Dec-2012 10:28 am (UTC)
i really wanna be an escort/sugar baby sometime. it's not the right time for me rn, but i can totally see myself getting into it eventually.
jw how old were you when you started, if you don't mind me asking? :)
wauwy 21st-Dec-2012 05:44 am (UTC)
HARLOT. STONE HER and so forth
sugary_placenta 21st-Dec-2012 05:44 am (UTC)
i'd out that motherfucker. idgaf i am vindictive.

i hope she's able to get to a good place in life with the help of her therapist.
josh_the_k 21st-Dec-2012 06:02 am (UTC)
Yeesh.
elvenqueen86 21st-Dec-2012 06:02 am (UTC)
That's so sad :-/ and it's even worse that she's going to be demonized now because of it. Poor thing.Honestly, I think prostitution should be legal. People are going to do it anyway, might as well have systems in place to protect workers. I also think it's about time that people stopped giving a fuck about what other people do in the bedroom, and judging them because of it.

wow. i think a lot of women, whether in poverty or not can fall susceptible to being in positions where sexuality becomes a mean to your life.
