Neill Bomkamp's ELYSIUM gets an updated synopsis!

Read the updated synopsis for Neill Blomkamp's Elysium, starring Matt Damon, Jodie Foster, Sharlto Copley, Alice Braga, Diego Luna, Wagner Moura and William Fichtner.

The Sony Pictures science fiction actioner opens in theaters from August 9th, 2013 and is helmed and scripted by Blomkamp, known for the incredible District 9. Bill Block, Simon Kinberg and Blomkamp produce the film which is executive produced by Sue Baden-Powell.

"In the year 2159, two classes of people exist: the very wealthy, who live on a pristine man-made space station called Elysium, and the rest, who live on an overpopulated, ruined Earth. The people of Earth are desperate to escape the planet’s crime and poverty, and they critically need the state-of-the-art medical care available on Elysium – but some in Elysium will stop at nothing to enforce anti-immigration laws and preserve their citizens’ luxurious lifestyle. The only man with the chance bring equality to these worlds is Max (Matt Damon), an ordinary guy in desperate need to get to Elysium. With his life hanging in the balance, he reluctantly takes on a dangerous mission – one that pits him against Elysium’s Secretary Delacourt (Jodie Foster) and her hard-line forces – but if he succeeds, he could save not only his own life, but millions of people on Earth as well."

After reading some parts of the script, they are trying to make Max sound like the ~ultimate hero~ in the synopsis which kind of bugs me a little because that is not how he is personified in the script. Oh well, to each there own I guess.

They're probably just trying to make it appear more marketable with a storyline that sounds familiar to would-be moviegoers. Could backfire or not.

If I remember correctly, this comes out in USA the same week as The Mortal Instrument movies. So, you know, if you want to do your bit to support the film industry, go see Elysium a few times.
