Ke$ha Responds to Her Song Being Pulled Because of School Shooting

Ke$ha has just -- shockingly -- come out and said she never wanted to sing the controversial lyrics in "Die Young" -- even though she's listed as one of the writers of the song.

TMZ broke the story ... Ke$ha's hit song has been yanked from a huge number of radio playlists since the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre.

Ke$ha just tweeted, she understands why her song is now inappropriate, adding, "I had my very own issues with "die young" for this reason. I did NOT want to sing those lyrics and I was FORCED TO."

The lyrics include this: "Let's make the most of the night like we're gonna die young. We're gonna die young. We're gonna die young."

A bunch of people lashed out at Ke$ha on Twitter, slamming her for the song in the wake of the tragedy.

Ke$ha is listed as a co-writer of "Die Young," along with Dr. Luke and others. She does not explain why she was forced to sing those lyrics.

I'm not buying this. Kesha sings "I'll pull a Jeffrey Dhamer" in Cannibal and commented that she is excited to piss people off when asked about it.
paulmitchell 19th-Dec-2012 04:03 am (UTC)
:\ i've always felt uncomfortable with the phrase "die young" this is a bummer
ruby_winchester 19th-Dec-2012 10:51 am (UTC)
me too..i've seen so many of my friends pass away at young ages through the years :/
It's not a joke.
howlin_wolf_66 19th-Dec-2012 11:08 am (UTC)
I don't see it as being treated like a joke... The lyric is a reminder to people not to waste their lives, because you never know how long you've got... That doesn't seem flippant, to me.
ediesedgwick 19th-Dec-2012 04:03 am (UTC)
lol why are ppl trashing her on twitter? That is dumb as fuck
scarletfbl 19th-Dec-2012 10:31 am (UTC)
Right? It's not like the lyrics suddenly changed overnight. People who suddenly take issue with the song when they hadn't before are morons.
kidfromurmemory 19th-Dec-2012 04:03 am (UTC)
my poor queen cannot get a break this era.

Also, before you ask "FORCED"

Die Young originally had a different hook, but they didn't use it, and used the one that Nate from FUN. wrote.

But she's on a shitty label (RCA) known for forcing people to record songs they don't want, she probably had no choice.
arielcharming 19th-Dec-2012 04:04 am (UTC)
Nate from FUN.

I see where this went wrong tbh
one_hoopy_frood 19th-Dec-2012 04:12 am (UTC)

That makes so much sense.
hearthecity 19th-Dec-2012 04:03 am (UTC)
Why would people yell at her on twitter about this song? So dumb
ericasays 19th-Dec-2012 04:04 am (UTC)
people doing dumb stuff on twitter. huh.

hrhobo 19th-Dec-2012 09:13 am (UTC)
prob the same ppl who sent death threats to ryan lanza on FB when they thought he was the dead shooter. i mean yeah sure express your anger or whatever but there was no point since he wouldn't even read it because he dead.
powerbottom 19th-Dec-2012 11:56 am (UTC)
Everyone wants to blame someone for the problems in the world so it's always blaming an artist, a tv show, a video game, etc.
age_of_green 19th-Dec-2012 04:04 am (UTC)
But it was playing weeks before the shooting and no one said anything...guess it's now "too sensitive" or something.
howlin_wolf_66 19th-Dec-2012 11:13 am (UTC)
Even though connecting it to the shooting is reaching... A shortened lifespan doesn't necessarily connote violence.
mingemonster 19th-Dec-2012 01:02 pm (UTC)
It's not necessarily that it's sensitive, but no one wants people to think of child murder when they listen to their radio station, so they remove songs that could remind people of it
merenwen17 19th-Dec-2012 04:04 am (UTC)
I'm curious to why she was forced to sing those lyrics
arielcharming 19th-Dec-2012 04:05 am (UTC)
me too!! I thought this album was supposed to be a big deal about her creativity and evolution or whatever. and now she's saying she was forced to sing?
kidfromurmemory 19th-Dec-2012 04:06 am (UTC)
read my comment above
merenwen17 19th-Dec-2012 04:09 am (UTC)
ah gotcha. thanks
rabbitncavylove 19th-Dec-2012 05:02 am (UTC)
probably contract issue? most of them are prob told to do this and that and they don't have a choice.
winninghearts 19th-Dec-2012 04:04 am (UTC)
it is the bizarre that people would slam her for this because of the tragedy

it's not like anyone had any idea this would happen

people trashing her bc of this are so dumb

the song was released months before this even happened anyway. this is totally beyond her control.
turkish_popstar 19th-Dec-2012 04:06 am (UTC)
people are dumb as fuck tbh
bighype 19th-Dec-2012 04:05 am (UTC)
oh please as if she knew the shooting would happen. attacking her for lyrics of a song that was put out way before this happened is just unfair.

exactly
cerseilannister 19th-Dec-2012 04:12 am (UTC)
mte. it's a silly pop song and i seriously doubt she would release a song AFTER a tragedy like this.
she's tacky but not that tacky.
howlcosmiclove 19th-Dec-2012 04:54 am (UTC)
seriously
nationalboner 19th-Dec-2012 05:18 am (UTC)
MTE.
sugary_placenta 19th-Dec-2012 04:05 am (UTC)
If it's true, I wish she'd go more into detail as to why she was forced to. Would be an interesting insight into the music business.

redleigh86 19th-Dec-2012 06:47 am (UTC)
It's pretty obvious: there's a clause in her contract giving RCA certain control over her music and if she doesn't do what they want they can say she's in breach of contract and then there's either a big lawsuit or she's dropped by the label. A lot of artists are held to those sort of contract stipulations in the music industry.
addicteddisplay 19th-Dec-2012 11:12 am (UTC)
I think the entire media world runs like this~

Isn't that why Dave Chappelle denied his pay raise and then went to Africa?
brandon198403 19th-Dec-2012 04:05 am (UTC)
While the lyrics are dumb and it's understandable that they bring up bad connotations right now, people are getting out of control with all this stuff

minderbinder 19th-Dec-2012 04:06 am (UTC)
I mean, had this song JUST been released then I would understand the outrage. But this song has been out for weeks/months. :/
sandvich 19th-Dec-2012 04:10 am (UTC)
mte. Pulling it from the radio for a while to be sensitive is probably a good call, but attacking the singer is fucking stupid. She couldn't have known that something liked this would happen while her song was still on the air.
madonna 19th-Dec-2012 06:13 am (UTC)
I agree with this 100%
stellarlyssa 19th-Dec-2012 04:06 am (UTC)
She had nothing to do with the tragedy, and I get why the lyrics might make people uncomfortable, but it's not exactly an uncommon phrase.
joc_strap 19th-Dec-2012 08:09 pm (UTC)
ia.
silentxstrom 19th-Dec-2012 04:07 am (UTC)
okay, but she CO-WROTE the song. idk understand why she said she was forced.

Edited at 2012-12-19 04:09 am (UTC)
withoutyoursmil 19th-Dec-2012 04:09 am (UTC)
i believe she co-wrote it with someone else and the chorus was changed afterwards?
kidfromurmemory 19th-Dec-2012 04:15 am (UTC)
she wrote the verses, the hook was written by Nate from FUN.
sumlikeithaute 19th-Dec-2012 04:39 am (UTC)
makes sense.
