"Vampire Diaries" Cast Reads Fan Fiction Excerpts

What better way to get through the dreaded Vampire Diaries mid-season hiatus than with a little fanfiction?

When we visited the Atlanta set of the series a couple of months ago, we asked the cast to read some colorful fan-written stories about their characters. Of course, we didn’t just serve up the usual Delena/Stelena fare. Instead, we scoured the Web for fanfics dedicated to the show’s most under-served (read: non-existent) pairings, like say Elena and Alaric (R.I.P) or Caroline and Rebekah (shippers, we know you’re out there!).

Watch the video below to see Nina Dobrev, Candice Accola, Zach Roerig and Michael Trevino read fanfiction (while trying very hard to keep a straight face).

This show properly recognizes online fandom, which is just..I dont know what it means. I must have seen some commercial for an episode and they had quotes from message boards rather then like reviews lol

You mean it's already reached 6k. At least on AO3. Which is insane, I don't think I've ever seen a fandom reach that kind of amount in such a short span.

I can't with this. Fan-fiction is an embarrassing hobby that most people outgrow. But people in fandom already have no filters, I have had to remove young people from Facebook because they are posting fan-fiction pr0ns they wrote on their public walls and squeeing together in front of everybody. There are no boundaries any more.

It was really painful to watch. There are fandom people just posting everything all openly on their Facebook walls now. I know these people in real life, and I am related to one. Seeing them in person, now that I know their sexual fantasies, I really DO NOT WANT.

I know fanfic is often treated like a dirty little secret. I don't read it and am neutral about it; read/write whatever you want, it don't matter to me. But I think posting it to Facebook is cringey and too TMI for real life, because it's mostly family, friends and coworkers.

I don't agree. Some people like to write/tell stories as an outlet/hobby, I don't see what's weird about it and why there should be a certain age at which you need to stop because it is otherwise 'embarrassing'.

Not all fanfiction equal 'My Immortal'.

Though breaking the fourth wall is fucking annoying. And not only that, it is always done by people with shitty fanfiction.

Agreed with everything but the embarrassing part. I don't think it's that bad at all, but I do think it depends on the genre wether or not I'd want people to know what I'm reading and/or writing.

I like boundaries though. A lot. Posting your private information online is just plain stupid, but most people don't think about that.
