I don't think the beginning was that slow, it was about the same pace as Fellowship of the Ring imo, which makes sense because it's setting everything up. Now that I've seen it I'm more optimistic about it being three movies, there was nothing I felt needed to be cut but then I am a bit biased lol. I really liked the extra stuff they added. It was funny, scary, thrilling, and just epic. Loved it.

That's great to hear. All the negativity was getting to be disheartening. :(

i think most reviewers weren't ready for how much it was tailored to the fans/pj's interests

You would think that would be obvious tho, I mean LotR were tailored for a certain audience and this was tailored for that audience, so...

Lotr esp. the fellowship was ready for a much better casual viewership imo

plus i think was drew so many people in the first time round was the huge battles but the hobbit doesn't really have that at all

yeah it's a whole different beast altogether, which is why I understand that it was probably a bit sloppy in places. they have to adapt a children's book in a way that remains true to its source while still being easy to recognize as part of the same story/universe as LotR, which is so different from it in every way. :(

Honestly, I think pretty much all fans of LOTR will be happy.

I went to see this morning and just loved it, seems a lot of people wanted LOTR version 2 and it's never going to be. Hobbit is Dragons and Goblins and adventure, LOTR is that and the epic struggle to save a world. Some people haven't seemed to understood that. All you have to do is to look at the course material to see how it was going to be. Some lovely hints to the future of Middle Earth in it though.

(Totally admit I was so excited to be seeing Middle Earth again that the music started, I heard Bilbo and I burst into tears).

I think that's the case, which is unfortunate. LotR was great, but the Hobbit needs to be its own thing, not LotR 2.0

Everyone who asked me about it today I told them to go in to watch it not expecting to be seeing LOTR. Waiting to hear what my manager thinks tomorrow evening when she goes. Just need to work out when I can go see it again.

The details were just amazing; like how Rivendell was in the spring/summer season whereas in LOTR it was autumn because the elves were leaving Middle Earth etc. SO AMAZING.

IA about optimism with the 3 parts; I was so scared it would suck but really, how did I start doubting PJ and team? <3

There were plenty of cheesy lines that worked better in LOTR (because it was such srsbiz) and captain-obvious moments, but it was enjoyable and I love how they worked things in such that it would eventually link back to LOTR. I cannot wait for the next films!

I'll always remember everyone in my cinema gasping with such pure joy when they panned into Frodo putting the 'No Admittance, except party business" sign. AWWW!
