Emilia Clarke as Holly Golightly in 'Breakfast at Tiffany's'

Emilia Clarke is trading in Daenerys Targaryen’s famous look for Holly Golightly’s: The first photos of Games of Thrones’ Clarke as Holly from the new Broadway play Truman Capote’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s have been released.

The classic New York love story, based on the novella by Capote and best-known from the 1961 movie starring Audrey Hepburn, comes to the stage when it has its world premiere on March 20. In addition to Clarke, the show will star Cory Michael Smith as Fred and is directed by Sean Mathias with a script penned by Richard Greenberg, the Tony Award-winning writer of Take Me Out.

“The goal of this version is to return to the original setting of the novella, which is the New York of the Second World War, as well as to resume its tone — still stylish and romantic, yes, but rougher-edged and more candid than people generally remember,” Greenberg said in an earlier statement.

Breakfast at Tiffany's is something I felt like I didn't have proper context for. I watched it and just didn't understand why it's so beloved.

Because some people like being ~cutesy~ and ~twee~

I would sort of like to see how the relationship falls apart when Peppard's character gets sick of all the whimsy and tries to pay a bill on time.

All old movies take a while with me - I had to watch Casablanca twice to understand how really unusual and devastating the story was. But Breakfast at Tiffany's is just a movie about a girl who has the sort of personality you develop when you depend on men to take care of you.

tbh i couldn't even finish watching it :/

The film is beloved by elitist women with an eating disorder or two who abuse the term "classy" and by certain gay men because it validates their misogyny. And anyone who doesn't think the asian character portrayal is grossly offensive can gtfo too.

Honestly, I feel like half the people who love it and glorify wanting to ~be Holly Golightly haven't actually watched the movie, lol. They've just seen photos of Audrey looking fab in a black dress, pearls, and those big glasses.

And to think, Truman Capote wanted Marilyn Monroe for the part. And imo, she fits it better than Audrey based on how Holly is in the book.

I don't get that mentality. When I think of female characters I relate to, the first one that comes to mind is Carrie from Homeland. I really dislike the cult of Audrey.

The book is wildly different to the film.

I liked the film because I had an Audrey phase.
