In her autobiography Cheryl Cole described her first meeting with Nicole Scherzinger as 'awkward'.
The Girls Aloud singer explained how she was left cringing after Nicole sang her track Promise This back to her.
Not impressed with the way Cheryl remembers their encounter Scherzinger, 34, blasted Cole making her look bad.
Speaking to Fabulous Magazine, Nicole admitted that she had not had a chance to read Cheryl's book but wasn't sure what to 'believe'.
She explained that she had seen the quotes and felt the whole thing was 'silly.'
Nicole told the publication: 'I’d like to give her the benefit of the doubt and hope that she would only have spoken highly of me because I’ve not spoken poorly of her.'
However upset at the fact Cheryl had failed to speak well of her, Nicole went on to explain what really happened.
Snapping back, the Don't Cha singer said: 'No. No. The story is I met her once at The X Factor and I wanted to make her feel good. I said I’d heard her song on the radio and I think I sang the words "promise this". But I really don’t know any lyrics after that.
'And then that is made out to be something else and I don’t understand why. I don’t understand why anybody would do that. It’s been blown out of proportion and it’s silly.'
In the book, entitled, Cheryl: My Story, Cole described the meeting as 'really embarrassing'.
She wrote: ‘I swear to God the woman sang the whole song, to my face.It was just so awkward.'
Cheryl likened it to performing Baby One More Time up to Britney Spears and notes: 'Can you image how weird that would be?'
In April 2011, Cheryl was hired to help launch the American version of X Factor but the following month she was unceremoniously fired.
Amid claims the US audience struggled with her Geordie accent, Cheryl only appeared in two episodes before being replaced by former Pussycat Doll Nicole.
Nicole was then dropped from the US show after one series but was drafted in to take a seat on the judging panel in the UK, and on Sunday her contestant James Arthur was crowned at the 2012 winner.
A follow up to this post.
Stay bitter about Nicole snatching your mic/job on X Factor USA, Cheryl.
