Anne Hathaway Finds the Brouhaha About Her Crotch Shot ‘Sad’

Anne Hathaway

A pervy upskirt shot of underwearless Anne Hathaway getting out of a limo at a New York premiere of Les Miserables has been making the rounds on that beautiful formless mass of the collective human id that we call the Interwebz. This morning on the TODAY show, she responded eloquently to host/human toejam Matt Lauer, who leered: "Seen a lot of you lately." Guh-ross.

She replied:

"It was obviously an unfortunate incident. It kind of made me sad on two accounts. One was that I was very sad that we live in an age when someone takes a picture of another person in a vulnerable moment, and rather than delete it, and do the decent thing, sells it. And I'm sorry that we live in a culture that commodifies the sexuality of unwilling participants. Which brings us back to Les Mis [...] So lets get back to Les Mis."

Still irritated with her talking about not eating for 13 days and broadcasting her Les Mis diet, but she handled this situation well.

i dont think that she was the 1 who said what her diet is. no place has it under direct quotes, as if it was sumthin she said 2 a reporter. so dat makes me think they got dat info from someone else besides AH

She was asked about it, so she answered it. She lost the weight for the role and the whole point (for the character) is that we were supposed to notice how thin she was. She's not going to refuse to answer journalists' questions while promoting the film that (like her or not, she'll deserve it) will win her an Oscar.

You've obviously never had an eating disorder or you'd understand how destructive and irresponsible saying the things she said is. It would have been easy for her to talk about how hard it was to lose the weight and NOT say "I didn't eat for 13 days" and I ate "just two thin squares of dried oatmeal paste a day" which are things that are triggering and will cause people to try to follow that same diet and do the things she did.

actually the responsible thing to do would be to refuse to answer. she was deflecting these questions during TDKR press, she should have done the same here. but now she's thirsty for an oscar and wants to show ppl how "committed to the craft" she is rme

You should watch her interview here and how she shuts Matt down about it. I think she regrets talking about it in detail.

Matt asked her about that and she said she didn't want to talk about it in too much detail because she doesn't want to glorify it, and that she didn't do it to "look hot", or anything of the sort; she did it to look like the character she was chosen to portray which was near death.

I think she handled the whole interview amazingly.

I hate Matt, though.

Came in here to say exactly this.

When male actors drop a lot of weight, it is for their ~craft and it's super impressive how dedicated they are.

When Anne does it, she's attention seeking and promoting unhealthy eating habits.

I agree 100%. Saw your other comments and at ~1 year recovered my brain was having issues when I saw those pictures of her and read about her "meal plan". I do think it was pulled out of context and maybe the writers are more to blame.
I wish celebrities knew how much anything they say can have such a big impact on people.
