yeah, she's totally trying her damnedest to get some ashlee level solo fame instead of just "beyonce's sister solange."
she's been super fucking meticulous about how she's been cultivating her not-beyonce™ image for the past 4-5 years. even though some of it feels so incredibly contrived, it's hard to cite or pin down specifics beyond "something in the milk ain't clean."
if losing you keeps gaining traction, i think she's going to work that opening for all it's worth and establish some solid mainstream footing as a solo artist.
I've met Solange on a few occasions b/c she is friends w/ a few of my mutual friends, and on multiple occasions I've tried to to sorta pick her brain and see if she is well-versed in the reference material that she is deriving a lot of her music from, and if she's really into the stuff she is, and if she's faking it, she's doing a good job b/c she is well informed. I know that with celebrities we tend to think that everything is calculated and contrived, and I'm as guilty with this as most, but sometimes it's not that devious and things are just as they appear.
i think you're right that some of the motivation about being unable to pin-point what feels "off" might have more to do with the general distrust of celebrity presentation. either way, i think she comes across way more "real" than beyonce regardless.
And our distrust is for good reason. I no longer work in the talent relations aspect of my job, but so many people you meet are incredibly phonies, and they don't even have the intelligence or foresight to keep up the charade.
i rly don't think there's any conspiracy to how she's presenting herself or that she's cultivating this image to prove she's the anti-beyonce like some people on here seem to think. i've followed her for quite some time and this all feels very natural. people just automatically seem to have this solange vs. bey mindset
you're right, i should have worded it better as solange's team is super meticulous with regards to her pr. i don't think she, as an individual, is really too concerned with carving out an image as not her sister, considering how long beyonce's career has been around.
