"Star Trek Into Darkness" Spumors: Alice Eve's Character Revealed?

Coming Soon contributor Silas Lesnick appears to have been to some kind of Star Trek Into Darkness press event earlier today. Rather than saving up all of the juice for a full report after the session was wrapped, Lesnick was tweeting as he went along.

Alice Eve’s Star Trek Into Darkness character revealed… She’s playing Carol Marcus!

And here’s Marcus’ entry in the StarTrek.com database:
Molecular biologist made famous in 2285 by her planet development process, Project Genesis. In the 2260′s a relationship with James T. Kirk produced her son, David.

This casting would seem to mean there’s a pretty good chance of Eve sticking around for subsequent sequels though, of course, we’re in a new timeline now. Maybe there’s going to be no relationship with Kirk, or at least no David.

What a poignant flutter of the butterfly’s wings that digression could be.

There are already complaints in social media that revealing this information is some kind of spoiler. I don’t think, however, that Marcus’ identity is going to be a mystery in the film, or even in subsequent trailers.

And then, at the same time, there are even folk expressing disbelief, thinking that this must be some kind of misdirect by the moustache-fiddling master of illusion himself, JJ Abrams. Also poppycock.

She’s Carol Marcus. False, non-mystery dispersed. Next!

I'm kinda starting to wonder if maybe JJ put in all of these little "easter eggs" like her hairstyle and the glass prison in general and the hand part specifically to just add up to general confusion. Like in the context of the movie they'll be just little callbacks to TOS (like she's Carol, just with that hair, etc) and not these big huge identifying factors like we think but when you stick those moments in a trailer, it really gets people going and confused because there's all these little things that are familiar but nothing quite adds up. THAT is something I wouldn't put past JJ tbh.

that's what i think. it's the easter eggs that will make it nice because it's still paying homage to the original so that the entire other timeline isn't completely gone in a way? besides they're still young and still in starfleet academy. probably by now in this movie they will graduate and begin their five year mission or something. but yeah, i can understand throwing everything in the trailer and fucking with our minds. i swear, he thrives off of it and it's not fair for my poor brain.

lol exactly. I'm actually a little bit impatient with it ngl. I understand the need for secrecy to a point but I think people get tired of it VERY quickly and I don't see why it would be a big deal for us to know for sure anyway.

lmao girl, i have been so damn impatient for this movie for four years like you and the rest of the fandom. i am growing weary at this point that i'm going to block everything and do my best to go into it with real low expectations so that i don't ruin the fun for myself.

Good luck bb!! I'm not really worried I don't think - the only dealbreaker for me will be if he's Khan, then there will be only rage. But I think that from the trailer we saw, it looks really good, so hopefully we don't have anything to worry about and can just go in and enjoy it!

i hope jj's real smart enough to not bring khan and completely whitewash him. i don't think he would want that kind of backlash and piss all the fans off.

MTE, this is why I'm not really all that worried yet. I DO think there's a slight chance that he's mixed some elements of Khan with some elements of Mitchell tho, that's my crack theory, so IDK how I'll feel if that one turns out true.

that would be interesting. because from what i read, the comic issues 1, 4 and 12 foreshadow the film or something. from what i got, it's gary mitchell, kirk and uhura kiss and tribbles. that's what i got at like two in the morning

Ugh I still haven't read them and I need to. But at this point I'm basically "team anyone but Khan please" ;___;
hemsworth 11th-Dec-2012 06:56 am (UTC)
i've never read them either but i found this awesome comment that mirrors my own thoughts and that's what i would hope would happen

ohhh thanks for this bb!! Although I read some post on tumblr pointing out that in the original ep they had to drop a boulder on Mitchell cause a phaser wasn't enough to kill him and all they used in the comic was a phaser so there's technically a loophole there. I didn't read the issues tho so I can't say for sure.
hemsworth 11th-Dec-2012 07:05 am (UTC)
RIGHT? he basically had god-like powers so a simple boulder or phaser wasn't going to completely kill him. all it would do was stun him and maybe incapacitate him for a moment until enterprise was able to high tail it off of the planet. then mitchell would find some way of getting off of it and getting his revenge
