Russell sounds a little better here than he does in the clips but he still seems really miscast in this role. The emotion just isn't there.

Hugh is still far better because he put more performance into the song and Russell seems like he is concentrating on his own words.
Getting really excited
Russell... not so much.
Russell will always be inferior to everybody in the film. I totally got behind Hugh right away. Long ago, there had been rumors they were going to do Carousel with him and I have Oklahoma so I'll take anything with him singing as long as he SINGS.
But uh yeah. Russel does sound better here than he did in the other clips.

unless a friend makes you go to movies at gunpoint
Well, I'm a bit biased, loving both Hugh and Russell, but I think both of them are great actors and can pull it off.
Jason Segel is surprisingly decent.
when will ur faves
i just rewatched the whole DVD and it was a MISTAAAAAAAAAAAKE because no matter what they do in the movie now it won't compare :(

still excited for thisss
sorry to go o/t, but i'm stuck and could use help: can anyone think of any films that came out in 2011 or 2012 that explored mother/daughter relationships? even if it wasn't the primary focus of the film. i can only think of the help
The Help, Emma Stone and Allison Janney's characters
Incendies, if you're willing to talk about a traumatic mother/daughter relationship
Jumping the Broom: some def mama/daughter drama there
Colombiana, because she is spurred into action on account of the death of her mom (and dad)
Joyful Noise: Queen and Keke tbh
We Need to Talk about Kevin: might be interesting to consider since most attention is given to the freak son
Sparkle: Whitney :(
she looks great (minus the fall) but the jumps look good, she just needs to get more expressive. the music is edited very choppily tho, i almost wish she could just skate to on my own only lol. and that dress is meh, aunt joyce says she looks like a sparkly peasant lol.
I'm impressed though. I mean idk if her scores there will repeat at a larger competition, but by then she'll probably have more of the total package instead of just wanting to get the minimum scores for Worlds.
It's nice to see someone walk the talk with a competitive comeback. Ladies (aka Mao and Ashley) are gonna need some consistent/existent triple triple action now.
RN I'm listening to Empty Charis at Empty Tables.
Imo, that song is one of the most powerful moments in the play. Like idk. Seeing all the dead students in the back as Marius sings is a knife in the gut. Idk how that moment will translate to film.
Another moment in the play that idk how they'll translate to film is Fantine and Eponine at Valjean's death. IDK I think it'd be cheesy in the movie in a way that it isn't in the play.
OH and also, one of my favorite in the show is after Valjean escapes with Marius and all the fighting is done and then barricade rotates and you just see Enjolras's body draped on the barricade. I have been known to tear up at that part.
I also agree on your other points, but I'm going to keep my fingers crossed they can pull it off.
I hate that the dream cast is basically all too old for their roles now. Not that they'd have been cast anyway, since the film versions always want talentless A-listers ksdhfsdkfh
Not sure if I will see the movie because Annie "I don't eat and I look like my brother" Hathaway is annoying as hell. Also I don't think she has the pipes.
and how are you going to post the 25th anniversary but not the (vastly superior in every way) 10th anniversary? BLASPHEMER
