Yay for Beasts! I know a lot of people were saying that Dwight Henry should get some love for his performance and at last he did! Some really bizarre choices here. Discuss!

Have they changed the Oscar foreign language film rules since Cache was disqualified for not being in German? I ask since Amour is being submitted as Austria's entry again.
punishermax 9th-Dec-2012 11:33 pm (UTC)
Amour is the feel good film of the year.
lightredemption 9th-Dec-2012 11:33 pm (UTC)

anna_bea2 9th-Dec-2012 11:37 pm (UTC)
crying @ Joaquin Phoenix and Amy Adams winning. I understand how people didn't like the movie, but the performances were amaaaaaazing.

I watched Beasts of the Southern Wild last night, I was a wreck during the last two/three scenes.
kwikimart 9th-Dec-2012 11:42 pm (UTC)
IKR?!
So happy for them!
Also for Dwight Henry

anna_bea2 9th-Dec-2012 11:48 pm (UTC)
yess <3 after watching the movie last night, I read a little about the movie/cast and the story about how he was cast is so funny and qt.
thethingiswhat 9th-Dec-2012 11:58 pm (UTC)

lightredemption 9th-Dec-2012 11:46 pm (UTC)

tigtogiba34 9th-Dec-2012 11:39 pm (UTC)

Well if Loki likes it I might give it a shot.
kwikimart 9th-Dec-2012 11:41 pm (UTC)
lololol
backupblood 9th-Dec-2012 11:42 pm (UTC)
What about him?
ms_mmelissa 9th-Dec-2012 11:43 pm (UTC)
Waltz is stealing all of his thunder. LOL
backupblood 9th-Dec-2012 11:45 pm (UTC)
And Jackson too.
amkf 9th-Dec-2012 11:58 pm (UTC)
Even more hilarious considering that Waltz is apparently giving a very similar, if non-villainous, performance to that in IB and Leo's went full on batshit for this part.
anna_bea2 9th-Dec-2012 11:50 pm (UTC)
~there's always next year, he'll get a lifetime achievement award at some awards show 30 years from now, etc.
amkf 9th-Dec-2012 11:56 pm (UTC)
Fighting for votes now that the Weinsteins moved Waltz back to supporting. And as was said above, Sam Jackson is impressing a lot of people as well.
bienenkiste 10th-Dec-2012 01:06 am (UTC)
ask again in 15 years tbh

Good for Dwight Henry, Emanuelle Riva, P.T. Anderson and JoaKING Phoenix, I'm glad they're all getting some recognition.

I think/hope Emmanuelle takes it when Oscar season comes around. I know JenLaw is a frontrunner but I really don't think they are going to give it to her.
backupblood 9th-Dec-2012 11:43 pm (UTC)
Best Actress is the most interesting race in years. It's anyone's game.
kwikimart 10th-Dec-2012 12:04 am (UTC)
That's true!
It's nice to see but it feels like a trend e.g. when they have one year that is a "token award someone that is black or gay year"
I really hope it continues, this year has been so good for female lead films BUT I'd also like to see more racial diversity.
Baby steps I guess.
bossm 9th-Dec-2012 11:43 pm (UTC)
I think that Riva and Chastain are becoming bigger frontrunners. I hope that Jen will still get her second Oscar nom. That's already huge for an actress her age.
anna_bea2 9th-Dec-2012 11:55 pm (UTC)
It's going to be between Jennifer, Emmanuelle, and Jessica Chastain. Emmanuelle has been quietly getting more attention, so I can see her coming out of nowhere and snatching the Oscar away while everyone is looking at Jennifer and Jessica. I hope it happens tbh.
azn_trang 9th-Dec-2012 11:42 pm (UTC)
Is Jlaw really that good in SLP?
backupblood 9th-Dec-2012 11:44 pm (UTC)
Yes and no; yes, she's great in the movie but I kind of feel like she was the only good thing in it. SLP never rang true to me at all.
anna_bea2 9th-Dec-2012 11:52 pm (UTC)
she's good, but I think people over hyped her performance, so I didn't end up being that impressed, but I can see why she's getting buzz or w/e.
kwikimart 10th-Dec-2012 12:02 am (UTC)
Do you know anywhere I can watch it? ifyouknowwhatimean
PM me if you do coz I can't really afford the cinema, all my money is going into Christmas.
Anyway I got to see The Master which is the only one I really cared about so I'm kind of just seeing the others when they crop up online.
thethingiswhat 10th-Dec-2012 12:02 am (UTC)
She's definitely good, but I think her performance was a bit over-hyped for me. I was more impressed by Bradley Cooper tbh.
mors_amor 9th-Dec-2012 11:43 pm (UTC)
I agree with you OP. And the music for the movie really was outstanding.
loganx2 9th-Dec-2012 11:45 pm (UTC)
Yay for Amy Adams! It will probably be the only award she wins this year, but it's a good one. However if I read one more person saying that she did nothing in the Master Im going to punch them. I mean if you think what she did was "nothing" then you need to rethink the way you watch movies.
backupblood 9th-Dec-2012 11:48 pm (UTC)
BSA is so empty besides Hathaway and Hunt that I think she could sneak in for a nom.
loganx2 9th-Dec-2012 11:51 pm (UTC)
She needs to at least be nominated to keep up with her every other year nomination. I hope the Academy realizes this is important.
ms_mmelissa 9th-Dec-2012 11:52 pm (UTC)
You're forgetting about Sally Field!
