Kate Middleton 'must feel terrible' over nurse suicide, says UK doctor's union

Kate Middleton is likely feeling very upset in the wake of a nurse suicide, experts said Saturday. The spokesman for the British Medical Association, a registered trade union for UK doctors, believes the death of King Edward VII nurse, Jacintha Saldanha, must be weighing on the pregnant Duchess of Cambridge. "Kate must feel terrible. Of course this is not her fault, but she is now being linked with a suicide in people’s minds," the Express quotes Dr. Tom Frewin as saying.

Kate Middleton was being treated at King Edward VII Hospital earlier this week when a pair of Aussie DJs prank called the hospital posing as Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Charles seeking details about the Duchess' condition. “Medical staff should never disclose confidential information to anyone and people who answer the phone should have the correct training and not be put in this invidious position," Ferwin said suggesting HIPPA-like regulations be put into place in the UK. "The secretary of state should put together a set of measures to prevent this happening again; to any patient, not just a member of the Royal Family."

Kate Middleton spent three nights at King Edward VII Hospital in London where she was treated for acute morning sickness. Experts predict, due to the oddity of the circumstances, the Duchess of Cambridge will not hold onto long-term guilt or responsibility for the tragic outcome.

they do, and they're paying for it. the intense negativity they're receiving is ridiculous though. it was an innocent (and dumb) prank that they never even thought would get as far as it did. let alone for this to happen. I think it's stupid to blame her death on them, obviously there is more to her story.

Apparently they're going to be speaking today.

i've heard so many people blaming them, like how much common sense do you have? it's like someone always has to take the blame and their brain can't think further than that

Well, if you read the comments more carefully, very few people actually blame the DJs for the suicide per se, because something like that can't really be forseen. HOWEVER, the prank itself was stupid and possibly illegal even. There's nothing funny about pestering hospital staff and a sick pregnant woman, and obtaining and spreading medical information about her.

Yeah, I doubt the DJs expected to actually get patched through to someone.

Why on earth did the hospital throw a non-receptionist on the phones when one of the most famous women in the world was staying there?

That does seem bizarre. You think they would have at least informed all their staff to be extra cautious about people trying to gain info around Kate's stay.

It was a recording. It wasn't live. The "we didn't expect to get through"-excuse is bullshit. Also? They could have hung up once they realised that they were being sent through. Also, a prank like this always had the potential to get someone fired should they succeed, so it could never ever have been funny.

Doubt they thought as far as "This could get someone into serious shit" which is why I think they deserve vitriol. Besides, how would heckling a pregnant woman who's been admitted to the hospital ever be funny anyway?
aubade_saudade 9th-Dec-2012 09:45 pm (UTC)
their prank was "successful." just because they thought they'd fail at their fuckery doesn't mean they're free from responsibility

It was 5.30 am :/
elanor2805 10th-Dec-2012 06:02 pm (UTC)
Which is probably why the hospital is blaming the DJs so vociferously.

What kind of fruitcake kills herself over something like this anyway? She clearly had major issues already. It was a prank, people need to get over it already.
kindafunnysad 9th-Dec-2012 09:36 pm (UTC)
i don't think it's fair to her. getting unwanted worldwide attention all of a sudden can fuck you up big time.

wth is this comment
handsdowntoo 9th-Dec-2012 09:34 pm (UTC)
I don't think its an innocent prank to try and get personal medical information about someone just because they are "famous." That's fucked up. And you have to know if you do get it and air it that jobs will be on the line.
hahahey 9th-Dec-2012 09:44 pm (UTC)
they deserve whatever backlash they get. It wasn't an innocent prank, they were messing with someone's job by going after that information. An innocent prank is calling and doing the dumb is your refrigerator running thing, this was one that would have had severe consequences even without the unfortunate suicide.

People always want to find someone to blame for a death though, especially when it's tragic. The people calling for the DJs' heads were the same ones condemning her before she died for being inept at her job.
