MEXICO — Authorities in northern Mexico are confirming that a small plane carrying Mexican-American singer Jenni Rivera has gone missing after taking off from the city of Monterrey.
Jorge Domene, spokesman for the Nuevo Leon state government, told Milenio television on Sunday that the plane left Monterrey about 3:30 a.m after a concert there. It was bound for Toluca, which is located outside Mexico City.
Domene says a search for the plane was launched early Sunday, with helicopters from the local civilian protection agency flying over the state. He says seven people are believed to be aboard the U.S.-registered Learjet 25.
The 43-year-old who was born and raised in Long Beach, California, is known for her interpretations of Mexican regional music known as nortena and banda.
(So sad especially since she's known to travel with her kids often. Hoping she's okay. Didn't want to tag this death because it isn't confirmed yet.)

RIP. :(
That was horrible.
EDITED to say that I would trust my dad flying over some other pilot, who could be drunk or asleep for all I know.

I think it's a normal reaction to be more scared when you hear the stories than you would after hearing about car crashes. My dad has 45 years experience and owned a flight school for a while, but my mom stopped flying with him after JFK, Jr. I think people just need to be aware that there's a risk associated with operating any type of machinery.
Yes, you're more likely to die in a car crash than a plane crash.
But you're also more likely to survive a car crash. Millions of people are in non-fatal car crashes every year. Generally, when a plane goes down, nobody is surviving.
you can and many people do survive plane crashes.
