DALLAS COWBOY JOSH BRENT ARRESTED FOR MANSLAUGHTER

Dallas Cowboys defensive lineman Josh Brent was arrested in Texas early this morning on charges of intoxication manslaughter involving a car accident in which a teammate died ... TMZ has learned.

Irving PD says Brent and a member of the team's practice squad, Jerry Brown, were involved in a single car accident around 2:30 AM local time and that Brown died as a result.

According to police, Brent was driving at a high rate of speed when his car "hit the outside curb," flipped over and came to rest in the middle of the road. Brent was responsive at the scene, but Brown was not. Brown was later pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Officers at the scene suspected alcohol to be a factor, so they gave Brent was given a field sobriety test, which he failed. His blood was also taken at the hospital to determine his blood alcohol level.

He was arrested by Irving PD and booked on a second degree felony charge at 4:14 AM and is being held without bail.

Brent pled guilty to a misdemeanor DUI charge while in college.

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones released a statement today, saying, "We are deeply saddened by the news of this accident and the passing of Jerry Brown. At this time, our hearts and prayers and deepest sympathies are with the members of Jerry’s family and all of those who knew him and loved him."

The incident comes just one week after Kansas City Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher killed his girlfriend and then himself.

most of them are relatively uneducated, regardless of what school they went to... add to that millions of dollars and an enormous fan base that can turn on you in an instant = erratic behavior. it's not all that surprising to me.

I also think that there is a real possibility of brain damage. The hits these guys give and receive are MASSIVE. Take enough of them and damage to the brain is likely.

THIS. i think the result of concussions from prof football is going to blow up soon. i've heard it all over the radio recently... if anything else like this happens, it's going to become even bigger.

I could see it. Head injuries can really change a person, or make them more aggressive, especially frontal lobe ones since that can fuck up your impulse control.

Well as for the other dude, people without millions are involved in domestic violence. I don't really see the connection there.

idg it either but people love to get madder at athletes like they're somehow more morally bankrupt than ppl in blue collar professions.

Yeah, people hear about it more because these people are millionaires playing for famous teams, but that seems to be the extent of the differences.

suicides and drunk drivers happens irl all the time too tho... idg what it has to do with the nfl. there are over 1500 players in the nfl.

True, but NFL players seem to have far more incidents than most other sports. They happen with other athletes, obviously, but the occurrence among NFL players seems to be higher. Hell, I live in Pittsburgh, the Steelers forever have one jackass or another doing something stupid.
