RIP Mercy the cat

It is with deep sadness that I have to tell you all that my kitten, Mercy, has passed away. My heart is completely broken.

When I first got Mercy, I had never lived with a cat before and so I had no idea that I was allergic. I thought that it might pass, but after a few weeks I decided to go visit two separate allergists, one of whom said my allergies wouldn’t get any better unless I started taking injections. I had fallen SO in love with Mercy that I wanted to try everything I could to keep her, but I didn’t think it was safe to resort to injections, and it wasn’t fair on Mercy, because I couldn’t play with her or give her as much attention as I wanted to. Mercy deserved a mom who could really give her the time and affection she deserved. I knew that Sydney, Khloe’s assistant, who had recently lost a cat she had loved and cared for for 17 years, would be the perfect mom for Mercy and Sydney was so excited to have Mercy as her own!

Sydney gave Mercy a loving home, but after a couple of weeks Mercy got really sick and Sydney had to rush her to the vet. They discovered she had a stomach problem that we weren’t aware of. Poor little Mercy died the very next day. It broke not only my heart that little Mercy died at only four months old, but Sydney’s too.

Mercy was a gentle and loving kitten and we are all going to miss her so much. Thanks to Sydney for making Mercy’s short life one filled with love. RIP Mercy Xo
*bonus pictures because he was so cute.

I guess she'd never had a cat?
distant_lines 8th-Dec-2012 03:21 am (UTC)
But all you have to do is be around a cat for a day to know. Hell, my allergies flare up if I spend 10 minutes in the same room as one.
mirlos 8th-Dec-2012 03:23 am (UTC)
you're giving her too much credit
distant_lines 8th-Dec-2012 03:20 am (UTC)
Seriously. I've known I had allergies for the longest time. For her to not know would have to mean she never stayed at a person's house who owned a cat.

lmao seriously

you can develop an allergy at any age, i found this out after taking in stray kittens a few weeks ago. not fun
kaydes 8th-Dec-2012 03:24 am (UTC)
My ex-friend adopted two cats a year ago and recently found out she is allergic. Now she has to give the cats up again like wtf.
kidviciousdonna 8th-Dec-2012 03:24 am (UTC)
I'm almost positive she did know,i thought she had mentioned it in her show
behindthe_scene 8th-Dec-2012 03:29 am (UTC)
I never knew I had a cat allergy until I got tested. My parents had two cats when I was kid, too. Sometimes allergies just develop over time.
illiade 8th-Dec-2012 03:32 am (UTC)
idk, I developed a lactose intolerance recently, so it could've been a situation like that.
classiqfemme 8th-Dec-2012 03:42 am (UTC)
There's a joke here about Kim Kardashian and pussies but I need time to work it out.

I wasn't allergic to dogs when I was younger and developed an allergy in the past few years. It's not gonna stop me from loving up on my dogs, because they are the best little guy and girl in the world, but I do try to avoid snuggling my face into them too much and I wash my hands after I play/pet them. I've been allergic to cats most of my life though and everybody I know with a cat allergy has a fast reaction time to their dander, so that is slightly questionable.
tigirah 8th-Dec-2012 03:56 am (UTC)
We got 2 cats when I was 7 years old. I developed an allergy to them when I was 16.

One can get an allergy later in life that the didn't have before.
ohwutevernvm 8th-Dec-2012 04:06 am (UTC)
seriously. wth
chappy_bunny_15 8th-Dec-2012 04:08 am (UTC)
It's possible, my mom didn't know until she was an adult.
lazmy 8th-Dec-2012 04:15 am (UTC)
i didnt know i was allergic until i adopted one. sometimes you have to be surrounded by their dander to feel something
ponpiri 8th-Dec-2012 04:19 am (UTC)
It can develop over time. My dad found out 3 years ago that he's allergic to cats and grass.
squirrels_oh_no 8th-Dec-2012 04:20 am (UTC)
I'm allergic to only one of my cats and I didn't develop my allergy until I was 22. It's kind of weird.
misscrystal 8th-Dec-2012 04:26 am (UTC)
I've never been around cats, so if I do have a cat allergy, I suppose I would never know.
slut_talk 8th-Dec-2012 05:14 am (UTC)
My roommate thinks she might be allergic but doesn't know. I mean, mind you she's only 21, but she doesn't know for sure because she's never been around one. Her mother and brother are severely allergic so they've never had a cat, but it's not something that she really needs to get tested for because she can live fine not knowing. I can assume it's the same thing that happened with Kim.

Shit did I just defend Kim Kardashian? Fuck. I'm ashamed of myself right now.
lulufairybubble 8th-Dec-2012 06:01 am (UTC)
I have a cat allergy and didn't know it for a long time. I even had 2 cats growing up and I wasn't allergic to them. It was my senior year when I went to a friends house and started sneezing uncontrollably. There's no rhyme or reason to it. There can be two huge fluffy cats and I'm allergic to one and not the other.
whitewatergirl 8th-Dec-2012 06:04 am (UTC)
Me! I grew up with a dog and was fine. I'd play with my friends' cats and be okay. But then I housesat two cats for a month straight and I guess it brought on asthma I didn't know I had, because I now have asthma but did not (know I had it) before I house sat the cats. It happens.
hpxstac 8th-Dec-2012 06:08 am (UTC)
You can develop an allergy. My best friend had to give her cat of 6 years away because she developed an allergy to it. It was really sad. :(
corruptionoflol 8th-Dec-2012 06:31 am (UTC)
allergies can develop and go away, they're not an absolute thing from birth to death
deviousweasel 8th-Dec-2012 07:08 am (UTC)
wow ok guys I don't need to be told more than once you can develop an allergy case closed
pantless_deacon 8th-Dec-2012 10:01 am (UTC)
Not true.

My sister has had her cat for 15ish years.

I used to always hang around her place when I was younger (as her kids are my age and we grew up together) and I was always around her cat. Even held her, kissed her and all that shit. YEARS.

In 2005ish I Catsat for her when she and her family went on vacation and it wasn't until then that I realized I was deathly allergic. Burning/watery eyes, severe sinus itching, constant sneeze, etc.

Also another sister and her family had cats and I never had issues.
stuffwithcandy 9th-Dec-2012 01:45 am (UTC)
I've had cats from age 3-now and only realized two years ago I'm allergic, after getting a test done. I have all Persians and they don't affect me as much as other cats do. So it is weird but it does happen...
arianagrande 8th-Dec-2012 03:20 am (UTC)
That cat always look so sad now i know why.
distant_lines 8th-Dec-2012 03:20 am (UTC)
