A leading feminist writer has accused Taylor Swift and Katy Perry of killing feminism and throwing society back to the 'demure girly-girl days of the white-bread 1950s'.
Camille Paglia says that both singers have 'insipid, bleached-out personas' that hark back to the man-pleasing, pre-feminist era.
In an article for The Hollywood Reporter, she wrote that as a result, many of today's young women fail to realize the role their sexuality plays in society and 'partying till you drop has gotten as harmless as a Rotary Club meeting'.

Also, it's my party is a fucking tune and I'm going to listen to it right now.
Pet peeve.
Also interesting that she speaks more highly of Rihanna, who is in love with a guy who physically abused her, and Beyonce, who I love dearly, but she has a fairly typical life outside of her pop-stardom, so... idgi
Where if someone doesn't fit into someone else's view of what a "good feminist" is, you are a bad woman.
Isn't feminism supposed to be fighting as women for your right to do whatever the hell you want? All I've ever seen is women belittling other women because said woman doesn't live the way/do the things they deem "womanly".
In the 21st century it's not OK to shame other women, and on a side note, it's definitely not OK to make offensive and misleading comments about mental illnesses like schizophrenia. She should educate herself.
And I say that as a feminist. This article is trying way too hard.
She hates women, and is a conservative. Her best friend is Rush Limbaugh.
Point for you, Gaga.
"I am being vilified by feminists for merely having a common-sense attitude about rape. I loathe this thing about date rape. Have twelve tequilas at a fraternity party and a guy asks you to go up to his room, and then you're surprised when he assaults you? Most women want to be seduced or lured."

Her whole comment about Taylor & Katy dressing sexy but not having the personality to match it reeks of ~if you are going to dress like you are asking for it then act like it. Good girls don't dress that way~
A friend of mine had a Nut Cracker ballet preview thing at a town event thing. She's part of a group that contains very small children up to High School kids.
So, my friend is stretching. She's wearing her tights and leotard. She's stretching before she has to dance, like you would. Her mom comes up to us and actually tells her to stop, because some older man was looking at her in an inappropriate way.
And that's really bothered me. Why on earth should she stop stretching because some guy looked at her butt? Why should that guy not be called out for looking at her butt? I mean, really. There's a guy who is looking, inappropriately, at someone in a group of people who are very obviously minors.
No, by all means, let's just stop all the stretching. Obviously that's the problem here.
and there, that was good to complain about.
