I set myself a goal on GoodReads to read 30 books this year, but that was way too high. So far I am on book #13 :|
anydoppelganger 7th-Dec-2012 09:10 pm (UTC)
AHAHHA this is me :( except this year, I tried to be realistic and made my goal 15 books. I'm still a few books behind -____-
sunhands 7th-Dec-2012 09:21 pm (UTC)
i put mine at 50 and i've read 38. 14 more than last year, but i don't think i'll be getting to 50 by the end of the year. :/
skippity_doo 7th-Dec-2012 09:23 pm (UTC)
Mine was 100 which was probably a bit ambitious. I'm behind too, but not by many - I'm on 88 at the minute. Must read more!!
thats_my_story 7th-Dec-2012 10:59 pm (UTC)
88? Omg. I wish I could read this many books a year!!!!
__nocturna 7th-Dec-2012 11:57 pm (UTC)
Dayuuuum.

I probably could have met my goal if I hadn't chosen to read so many LONG ASS BOOKS this year. ;___;
jeterluva 7th-Dec-2012 11:43 pm (UTC)
I set my goal as 15, and beat that by early summer, but then I've been reading the same book since July and not even half way done.
tigtogiba34 8th-Dec-2012 12:10 am (UTC)
I went with 20... I'm 2 away from 40 :o)
joaniemaloney 8th-Dec-2012 03:39 am (UTC)
haha I set it at 100 and I'm at 22.

whoops. wasn't expecting to go on vacation all summer and basically not read.
dreamerbri 8th-Dec-2012 08:16 am (UTC)
same with me. my goal was way too high. lol
tx5mym5 9th-Dec-2012 06:36 pm (UTC)
My goal was a 100, and I'm 2 books away from hitting it. I count graphic novels, and I'm a librarian.

I finally caught up on my reading list when I lost power for over a week thanks to Hurricane Sandy, and the best book I read was The Passage, by Justin Cronin. It's the first book in the Passage trilogy. The Twelve, which came out this year, wasn't as good though, IMO. But it's still worth the read. I can't wait for the last book.

Chris Ware is amazing, I can't wait to read Building Stories
larrylurker 8th-Dec-2012 09:14 pm (UTC)
Building Stories looks like a board game.

Neat
tigtogiba34 7th-Dec-2012 10:56 pm (UTC)
Nope didn't read a single one of those. I am one book away from 40 though!
thats_my_story 7th-Dec-2012 10:58 pm (UTC)
I tried to read 52 books this year and was so on track for the first four months until I had to pick up a second job and then had no time. But I will have managed to read 26+ by years end. I'm currently reading The Silver Linings Playbook. I re-read the first 4 Harry Potter's this year (Y), 5 People You Meet In Heaven (N), The Hunger Games trilogy (Y), Nightlight~a Twilight Parody (N), Perks of Being a Wallflower (Y), A Long Way Down (N), Seriously...I'm Kidding (N), Snuff (N), A Stolen Life (Y), Still Alice (?), Is Everybody Hanging Out Without Me? (Y), Heart of the Matter (Y), Looking for Alaska (N), Dancing Naked (Y), Girl Walks Into A Bar (Y), 13 reasons why (Y) & Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk (N).

I am trying so hard to be done with Anna Karenina, but omg Levin I just can't.

On the flip side, I've been doing fantastically with Fables. I'm on vol. 10 rn.
__nocturna 8th-Dec-2012 12:03 am (UTC)
I started Anna Karenina over the weekend! I am almost done Part I and omg its soooo long :/
anydoppelganger 8th-Dec-2012 01:03 am (UTC)
the Levin parts were my favorite. It's sad that the film adaptations always focus on Anna because I feel like that's misleading lol.

That being said, I've never been able to finish the book...I always get stuck about 150 pages from the end lol.
joaniemaloney 8th-Dec-2012 03:38 am (UTC)
aw, I'm not familiar with the novel/story (obv I know the ending and the premise) but I had heard that they were putting in very little Levin. I watched the movie with this in mind and it actually seemed like a decent amount.

or maybe I loved his part of the story so much that I treasured every second of it, ha.

I bought BEHIND THE BEAUTIFUL FOREVERS, but haven't read it yet. I heard about a few of these books but are pretty meh them as of now.
concrete_random 8th-Dec-2012 01:04 am (UTC)
Just bought Building Stories, I am so excited to read it.
joaniemaloney 8th-Dec-2012 03:37 am (UTC)
I've heard of a few of these but I haven't read any.
sometimes it's hard bc I'll recognize covers a lot easier since I'm at the bookstore browsing all the time but not necessarily the title.

OOH I ACTUALLY HAVE 'THE YELLOW BIRDS' FROM THE LIBRARY TODAY. so, I'm starting that.
sarahsumbrella 8th-Dec-2012 08:31 am (UTC)
I read a Zadie Smith's "white teeth" book once and wanted to beat myself to death with it afterwards for sticking with it, it was so over-long and so fucking dull and boring.
mjspice 8th-Dec-2012 03:56 pm (UTC)
I don't trust New York Times' list ever since they named that 50 Shades book number 1. XP
