Australian DJs who pranked nurse taken off the air

Mods: this seemed to post w/o problem to my personal journal, not sure where formatting error is?

source is Reuters employee.

More from TMZ:

The two Australian DJs at the center of the Kate Middleton hospital prank have gone RADIO SILENT since news broke that the nurse at the hospital committed suicide ... TMZ has learned.

The DJs are under serious fire after pulling off a stunt where they pretended to be the Queen of England (fake voice and all) and duped nurse Jacintha Saldanha into connecting them to the people treating Middleton, who revealed details about Kate's condition.

Saldanha's body was discovered early this morning ... and cops believe it's an obvious suicide.

TMZ called the Australian radio station where the DJs work ... and were told by the executive producer that the DJs will NOT be taking any calls, period.

The E.P. explained ... the DJs have been "ordered" not to speak to the media. It's unclear who issued the order.

The producer added, "I advise you to stop trying to call them."

I do not at all feel any remorse for those DJs losing their jobs. They ought to be fired, and not just for this .

RIP, Mrs Saldanha.

I generally don't give too much of a shit about royals but the superstitious part of me is kinda sad that this pregnancy has already been linked to a tragedy like this.

i think so too. obviously it is the nurse's children and not kate middleton and the royal family who have been dealt the biggest blow here, but if i were kate i would feel absolutely sickened that my pregnancy (and the hysteria that surrounded it) resulted, however indirectly, in something like this. and i would also be really panicked that it was bad juju either for the pregnancy or for the child's life in general. i hope she isn't superstitious. i imagine your brain is already so topsy turvy just from being pregnant, i really don't know how one would deal with this as well.
i know it helps nobody to think of it in this way, but technically this foetus has been connected to death before it was even born....
theitalianchick 7th-Dec-2012 07:00 pm (UTC)
Exactly! It's not like I rationally believe in juju and omens, really, but I wouldn't want this for my unborn child. It's like a big black cloud on a joyous event.

I think Wills and Kate have had an unnecessarily rough time in general for a young married couple, tbh. I am old enough to remember Charles and Diana, and while the press was very intrusive with Diana, it seems like they are taking the intrusion even further these days. (Scary to think, given how Diana died.) Not just this prank call incident, but also the fact that someone from their inside security circle may have leaked that information about their location in France and she was photographed sunbathing.

I think Kate went into this understanding that there would be certain things she would have to endure in her life, like media interest, and William has grown up with it -- but people have taken things way too far and in a very aggressive way with her and Wills, and it's really disturbing.

mte, she's obviously not the major victim here by any means but how awful that something that should be joyous for her family has been marked by tragedy
astrologee 7th-Dec-2012 06:32 pm (UTC)
YES.
brucelynn 7th-Dec-2012 06:32 pm (UTC)
BYE BITCH!!!
littlepunkryo 7th-Dec-2012 06:35 pm (UTC)
Are we sure they actually LOST their jobs, or are just like temporarily suspended till this all calms down? Cause with a radio station who encourages this kinda crap I'd bet it's the latter tbh.
handsdowntoo 7th-Dec-2012 06:40 pm (UTC)
ITA. They were still playing the call after news broke of this woman's death. The station is fucked up.
stupidsxyflndrs 7th-Dec-2012 06:36 pm (UTC)
ia with what someone said in the last post about pranking putting someone's career on the line. even if they didn't expect it to go that far, you never know, so why make that gamble with someone's job, let alone life, for a laugh? they deserve to be fired for being that careless to begin with imo.
botica 7th-Dec-2012 06:53 pm (UTC)
If they followed protocols and procedures at that hospital, no one's job could be put on the line over a silly prank call. I'm literally baffled at how personal information was given out without verifying identities, and of a royal member no less.
bent_ley 7th-Dec-2012 06:56 pm (UTC)
yeah mte. nurses especially should know to never speak to someone on the phone without some sort of verification. people shouldnt prank call hospitals but people are assholes so hospital staff has to be hyper vigilant
forbidden_john 7th-Dec-2012 07:00 pm (UTC)
To be fair, the lady who committed suicide didn't give any personal information out. She didn't actually do anything wrong. It was the second nurse who actually gave the information. My concern is that the blame was pushed on the first nurse and she was built up to take the flack for putting the call through.

I, like you, work in a hospital. The blame game when something goes wrong can get pretty fearsome.
theitalianchick 7th-Dec-2012 07:02 pm (UTC)
yes, exactly. I understand the sadness about this tragedy but I see lots of pitchforks being raised out of hysteria.
lcacbc 7th-Dec-2012 07:04 pm (UTC)
Yep ia. I'm sad that the woman killed herself, but never giving out personal information is rule number 1. I only work in an office and I get the Data Protection Act drilled into me, and it's more serious for medical staff
stupidsxyflndrs 7th-Dec-2012 07:08 pm (UTC)
i work in medicine too. mistakes happen, and i think it's shitty to play a prank in the hopes of inciting one from someone working in a job to to meant help people.
yurasama_love 7th-Dec-2012 06:37 pm (UTC)
Poor nurse. Fuck these guys. As soon as they realized they got through, they should have hung up.
in_suburb 7th-Dec-2012 06:37 pm (UTC)
I agree.
forbidden_john 7th-Dec-2012 07:02 pm (UTC)
They fraudulently obtained confidential information by pretending to be someone they weren't. There should be consequences for that, though, I suspect having a death on their conscience will weigh heavily enough.
wauwy 7th-Dec-2012 07:17 pm (UTC)
In the USA at least, it's illegal and they could be charged with several crimes. Probably the radio station itself would be found culpable.
phillymademe 7th-Dec-2012 06:37 pm (UTC)
good they should be fired.

RIP to Mrs. Saldanha.
bent_ley 7th-Dec-2012 06:53 pm (UTC)
OT but i wonder what it will take from the eagles and the nhl to make philly start watching the sixers again?
phillymademe 7th-Dec-2012 06:59 pm (UTC)
well once the Eagles finally tank and with the lockout still going on, maybe people will start caring about the 76ers. i hope. it kills me to see the Linc completely filled just to watch them flop and there's no one in Wells Fargo when the team in there is actually winning. but it'll be 76ers luck that as soon as people start caring about them the lockout will be over and everyone will be a Flyers fan haha.

I am a NY/NJ fan, but I am dying w/o NHL
bent_ley 7th-Dec-2012 06:39 pm (UTC)
hmmmmmmmmmmm i'm not mad that these people were fired, because you shouldnt ever prank call when it comes to medical stuff. that's just fucked up.

but i would guess that the nurse probably had some mental health issues, and i think blaming the DJ's for her death is a bit much.
yehyijun 7th-Dec-2012 06:42 pm (UTC)
Thank god, 'cause they deserved it.

Perhaps people like them who do the whole pranking thing on radio should think about possible consequences thoroughly before going on out with it.
hershelwalker 7th-Dec-2012 06:43 pm (UTC)
was there an earlier post on this?

tadashee 7th-Dec-2012 06:44 pm (UTC)
wasnt the call prerecorded and then they played it later. it want a live prank call from my understanding. which is ridiculous. Even if you didnt know your "prank" would work, who thought airing this would be a good idea? even if you didnt think about the two nurses involved, you shouldve anticipated how disgusting it is to release someone's medical condition. Yes the nurse should not have transferred the call, but it was a mistake and i feel awful that she felt she had to take her life. I am genuinely curious about the harassment she must have faced.
viakyusu 7th-Dec-2012 06:44 pm (UTC)
GOOD
fineapplewine 7th-Dec-2012 06:45 pm (UTC)
God, this whole thing is just incredibly sad, I can't stop thinking about it. Just a tragic, tragic situation.
it_llbeyourname 7th-Dec-2012 06:48 pm (UTC)
THIS IS SO AWFUL in SO many ways. i cannot BELIEVE this happened. my dad tried to tell me he read this in the paper and i just shut him down because i thought he'd misread it.
theblackwidow 7th-Dec-2012 06:48 pm (UTC)
This whole situation is beyond sad.
