both? Wanda (the alien) ends up being removed from Melanie so Melanie can have her body back and be with Jared. and then Wanda is placed into a different body (one that was already being used as a host) so she can be with Ian. in the book, the new body is a girl who essentially looks like Amanda Seyfried lol.
