Broke Allen Iverson spends $600 a day on restaurants and groceries

iverson-steak-and-lobster

Allen Iverson and wife Tawanna Iverson remain engaged in a bitter divorce and The Answer recently outlined his finances in court documents filed in Georgia, claiming he runs a deficit of close to $300k a month.

Iverson says monthly expenses cost him about $360,000 per month while he brings in income of $62,500 per month.

According to the court filings, Iverson pays more than $125,000 to assorted creditors including his jeweler, and also spends money on several mortgates, though as TMZ states, his Atlanta mansion is about to be auctioned off.

A.I. reports that he spends $10,000 a month on clothes, $10,000 on groceries, $1,000 on dry cleaning and $10,000 per month on restaurants (It’s unclear how much is spent at T.G.I. Friday’s) and entertainment.

Iverson, who earned about $150 million throughout his NBA career, still owns a Maybach valued at nearly $400,000.

What was wrong with the Bentleys he used to cruise around Philly in?

That is so wasteful.

I was craving McDonald's fries so bad the other week so I broke down and got some. They were horrible! I was so upset.
hershelwalker 6th-Dec-2012 04:01 am (UTC)
ugh I got some yesterday. I tried their new little pumpkin pie too. I felt gross after.

jigglemypuff 6th-Dec-2012 02:53 am (UTC)
He blew $150 million? Wow, just wow.
spillvegas 6th-Dec-2012 02:54 am (UTC)
i'm trying to calculate on what exactly...he has a bunch of cars and maybe 3 houses but that's about it.
jigglemypuff 6th-Dec-2012 02:58 am (UTC)
Well $360,000 a month adds up up about $4.5 million a year. That would still take him 33 years to spend all that.
marywebgirl 6th-Dec-2012 02:58 am (UTC)
I watched a documentary about broke athletes and they're notorious for making bad investments. They want to be the next Magic Johnson with an empire of successful businesses and shy away from boring but safe things like mutual funds.
abordantoinette 6th-Dec-2012 03:10 am (UTC)
well he does have several "mortgates"
speedychi 6th-Dec-2012 02:53 am (UTC)
mmmmmm

i believe it. im broke as a joke and all i spend money on is food. grocery shopping is the only shopping i like to do, i just wish i could spend less than $50 $100 when i do it!
maveness 6th-Dec-2012 03:01 am (UTC)
Dude, I'm glad I was unemployed 3 years ago when food was cheaper. Now? I go in and get a small cart of groceries and it's $100. I remember being able to do the same amount for under $50.
lack_ofcolour 6th-Dec-2012 04:43 am (UTC)
I thought I was going nuts. My husband and I have been spending about $100 a week on groceries, and I swear it wasn't that bad even a year ago. Everything must have shot up. We even shop around and go to 2 different markets to get certain things, and it's around a hundo every week. Stupid economy n' stuff.
mmmyesplease 6th-Dec-2012 06:46 am (UTC)
Seriously! When did bag salad mix cost $3.50? I feel like my grocery bill has significantly increased from my poor, newly employed college grad days, whereas my food has only marginally gotten better (i.e. I can make budget meals and not just ramen).
youbeboy 6th-Dec-2012 03:33 am (UTC)
Same. I buy groceries for one and I still end up spending more than I care to on them.
jainypoo 6th-Dec-2012 02:54 am (UTC)
I can't even imagine spending $600 a day on food.
squishinator 6th-Dec-2012 03:24 am (UTC)
i cant even imagine spending that in a month. not even CLOSE.
peddlestools 6th-Dec-2012 03:59 am (UTC)
have you never shopped for your own groceries? jw
hearxmexrawr 6th-Dec-2012 04:05 am (UTC)
mte. i spend half that for 2 people, 2 dogs, a cat, and 1 roommate who eats our fucking food.
jainypoo 6th-Dec-2012 04:34 am (UTC)
Same, tbh. My husband primarily works from home, too (so he eats pretty much all meals here)
noapologiesx 6th-Dec-2012 05:38 am (UTC)
ikr. I spend like $30 a week on groceries most of the time. I can't imagine.
2bhllywdornt2b 6th-Dec-2012 04:57 am (UTC)
that's like my money for food for 6 months...
cherisheddesire 6th-Dec-2012 02:54 am (UTC)

fakevoices 6th-Dec-2012 02:55 am (UTC)
he is like my broke roommate who spends most of her money on food and on the expensive kind and complains about being broke

people need to get their priorities straight
fashionbb 6th-Dec-2012 03:03 am (UTC)
I had a friend that didnt have the $50 or whatever to go to an amusement park (I think it was Six Flags) and she had her sibling send her the money for it. I told her not to go/why go (but she wanted to cause she already told the people she was going). I just dont get how you can be that dumb about money. Plus you have to pay for food etc.
clarelove 6th-Dec-2012 04:09 am (UTC)
Yeah but it isn't that easy. Money management should be taught in school. Seriously. I'm all for taking people to task when it's warranted but, when you consider that something like 82% of the Cdn population is in consumer debt (and the average, individual, non-mortgage consumer debt load is $26,221*), it becomes clear that it's not as easy as "people need to get their priorities straight".

fakevoices 6th-Dec-2012 04:14 am (UTC)
that is true but she isn't like everyone else
her mum put her life savings for to get her to go to university only to have her not make any effort to do well in school and eventually getting kicked her (she didn't go to class at all)
she just isn't responsible with money, she makes her bf pay for everything for her and she still lives in our uni town when she can go home and do something with herself

but i don't know
noapologiesx 6th-Dec-2012 05:42 am (UTC)
Money management should be taught in school.

I agree with this so hard. I was lucky and I learned from frugal and smart parents who knew how to stretch our meager budget and still feed the family well and pay the bills on time. Not everybody has that and it does take some time to learn.
hearxmexrawr 6th-Dec-2012 04:13 am (UTC)
lol, my fiance's roommate is like that. only, his parents pay all his bills and rent, and he doesn't have a job. He was complaining about being broke the other day and today he came home with one of those new DS things and 3 new xbox games (60/each). I looked like Renee Zellweger with the lemon face I had omg.
