Twitter reactions for Django Unchained advanced screening

It’s only been three years since writer/director Quentin Tarantino’s last masterwork hit screens, but the wait for his Inglourious Basterds follow-up has nevertheless felt much longer. At last Django Unchained is set to be unleashed across the country over the upcoming Christmas holiday, but the first screenings of the film took place this past weekend. Tarantino has yet to make an outright bad movie (the quality of Death Proof may or may not be a point of contention), so hopes have been high for the Western Django Unchained. Full reviews are still under embargo, but a few well-respected professionals provided some quick reactions on Twitter following the first screenings, and it appears that QT has delivered yet another winner with an especially keen sense of humor. Moreover, the runtime has been revealed to be a lengthy 2 hours and 40 minutes. Hit the jump to read some reactions.

Industry veteran Anne Thompson, who runs the blog Thompson on Hollywood, singled out the film’s violence and a couple of standout performances:

Looper writer/director Rian Johnson was also at the screening, and he has high marks for Oscar hopeful Leonardo DiCaprio:

An especially encouraging “Tweet Review” came from writer David Ehrlich:

And here are a few other reactions from those who were in attendance:

As the review embargo is still up there’s not much by way of detailed opinions on the film’s merits, but these quick reactions are definitely encouraging. Look for more on the film closer to release. Django Unchained opens on Christmas Day.

Yesssssss. I went there in May. :o) Didn't stay there but walked around. Super awesome and creepy.
blessedbell 5th-Dec-2012 02:54 pm (UTC)
that is so awesome, I'm jealous! I went up there late last year (first trip to CO, I'm from AZ) and the scenery was beautiful. We took the tour and got to see all the creepy rooms and everything. Have fun!!!

"Spaghetti Westerns are very famous for their darkness, cynicism and often bleak outlooks on life."
maryhurt 5th-Dec-2012 01:28 pm (UTC)
YES I knew it, all Leo had to do was step out of his common place for a second and people would notice he's still a decent actor.

Maybe this time, bloated bb! Maybe this time...!

I can't wait to see it.
justrachna 5th-Dec-2012 01:32 pm (UTC)
Those reviews mention everyone but jamie fox. It's like and none for jamie fox. Bye!
justrachna 5th-Dec-2012 01:35 pm (UTC)
I mean they mention don johnson for fuck's sake. It's still a travesty that jamie fox has an oscar and leo doesn't. Haters gonna hate, i will stan leo even if he gets as fat as brando in his later years
snoozeen 5th-Dec-2012 02:07 pm (UTC)
Kind of even worse that Jamie got the Oscar the year Leo should've for Aviator, too.
wheresandrae 5th-Dec-2012 02:12 pm (UTC)
lmfaoooo YES
latexana 5th-Dec-2012 02:26 pm (UTC)
I'm super stoked for this movie, but every time I think about jamie fox being the lead, my excitment shrinks.
ponpiri 5th-Dec-2012 04:59 pm (UTC)
Yeah, I noticed that. A few of the audience members had conversations on their tl about everybody else BUT Jamie.
_scarlett_icons 5th-Dec-2012 01:33 pm (UTC)
I want to see this.
satellite__eyes 5th-Dec-2012 01:41 pm (UTC)
While all the bitches are fawning over Les Mis on Christmas day, I'll be laughing my ass off to this. Can't wait!
ciao_bella315 5th-Dec-2012 01:54 pm (UTC)
You and me both.
warsawed 5th-Dec-2012 02:24 pm (UTC)
mte I've seen Les Mis on stage and I've read the book so I feel like the movie has nothing to offer me lol
piratesswoop 5th-Dec-2012 02:58 pm (UTC)
some of the singing performances i've seen so far are seriously lacking. let me curl up on my couch blasting my 10th anniversary cd and i am content
champagnexdream 5th-Dec-2012 02:27 pm (UTC)
I'm thinking it's going to be a double feature for me lol. Two movies that could not be more different.
ponpiri 5th-Dec-2012 05:00 pm (UTC)
I planned on seeing both Django and Gatsby on Christmas Day :(
bitchsdangerous 5th-Dec-2012 05:26 pm (UTC)
Ditto. I said as much on fb and now I'm getting shit from people. I already did the musical thing on Christmas with ALW's Phantom film in '06 and that was a joke. I'd rather be laughing my ass off on Christmas. No sad movie for me.
endingonfire 5th-Dec-2012 10:10 pm (UTC)
I am making it my mission for this to be the family outing film Christmas Day.
christoph 5th-Dec-2012 01:41 pm (UTC)
im more excited for this movie than any other one coming out soon
tippythepoodle 5th-Dec-2012 01:46 pm (UTC)

:(
whataboutdasha 5th-Dec-2012 06:48 pm (UTC)
Yup. I was not impressed when he kept saying it in Pulp fiction. He seems to like that word way too much.
theciz 5th-Dec-2012 01:52 pm (UTC)
I have to wait until January for this and Les Mis? STOP RUINING MY CHRISTMAS, WORLD. >:(
lady_iriska 5th-Dec-2012 01:56 pm (UTC)
For it's January for this and fucking February for Les Mis. :((
theciz 5th-Dec-2012 01:59 pm (UTC)
Omg I would rage. Still waiting for Wreck-it Ralph as well. Why does it take so long in this day and age?!
boomstick 5th-Dec-2012 02:08 pm (UTC)
