I used to work for an online store, and we had this problem during the holiday season EVERY year with our Canadian customers. From what I remember, it's not the company - in this case, Amazon - that's charging you the import/custom fees, it's actually your country. I remember having to call UPS all the time, because I thought that if it wasn't us, then it must have been UPS or whichever other service you use. Nope, not them either. I'm guessing that the fees are tacked on during this time in attempt to profit from all the packages being sent. It seems to not happen during any other time of year.

It's very strange, because I've never heard of this happening to US residents, receiving packages from Canada, so I could still be wrong. Idk.
