How far will 'Hoarders' go for our entertainment?

Last night, The A&E network has premiered the new season of "Hoarders."

Since the series started it's been hard to believe that the next show could be any worse than the last, but it always is.

Monday's episode, (Dec. 3, 2012), featured a woman who hoarded cats. We've seen episodes where poop was the only decoration in a house. One of the houses on Monday's show was the worst of the worst. I can't believe they will find anything worse than this woman and her poopy house. The problem is, the poopy is coming from cats. The homeowner claimed she had 50 cats She also claimed she had 50-75 deceased cats. These cats are in her freezer and her fridge.

Last night's episode was disgusting. It was the first time I ever turned off the show... And that was only 5 minutes in to the episode. Most of my friends shared the same sentiment. Did you watch it? What did you think?

I don't know why I keep watching this show, but I'm hooked onto every episode. This show definitely motivates me to clean up more and get rid of things I don't need. But omg, those people that sleep with dead animals around their homes or poop laying around...I just...

What do you mean: things you don't need? EVERYTHING MIGHT TURN OUT TO BE USEFUL, YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHEN!

It's sad that I actually really believe that :(

My aunt is a hoarder. It's mostly just extreme amounts of clutter though and not unsanitary like the houses of the people in this show (and thank God it's not animals!) She's a good person; I wish I knew how to help her.

When I moved back from California I stayed with my best friend for 3 days and I had no idea he was so unhygienic, he literally could have been on hoarders. I packed up my shit over night when he was at work and went running to my moms house. And to top it off he's a nurse. It's shocking to me how some people can live like that UGH!!!!!!!

Ew that is disgusting! I had a similar experience. I stayed at a friend's for Thanksgiving break and it was awful how chaotic their house was. The dad acted like a twelve year old boy (constantly yelling, being sarcastic and joking around), their dog was just out of a control (at Thanksgiving dinner the dad threw the dog's toy across the table at my face and the dog jumped up to grab it), they fed the dog off their plates at the table, and the washing machine was caked with dirt. It was more the insane chaos that bothered me, but that Thanksgiving I realized what I was really thankful for - my clean house back home!

I was intrigued with hoarding earlier this year, and from reading stuff from the Children of Hoarders website, apparently a disproportionate percentage of hoarders are nurses.

I've heard that as well, and you know what's funny as disgusting as his apt was he would come home from work and wipe down his materials because he was worried about the super bugs that he could potentially get from hospitals. In my mind I was like BUT YOU COULD CATCH THAT HERE!!!!!

just...don't watch it? i don't see how people watch this anyway, it's just filled with people who live these horrible lives. it's way too sad

I saw a hoarders t-shirt and was disgusted.

I can't even watch these shows because they disgust me so much. I wish I was more of a neat freak but at least I'm good at getting rid of clutter.

Also, I know for a fact that there is at least one hoarder in my apartment building and it terrifies me/grosses me out. There's an area in the back of the building for people to get rid of stuff that they can't throw in the garbage (like old furniture, etc) and this one guy is always there looking for stuff! He even told me flat out that he's a hoarder. It scares me because there was a huge fire in an apartment building in my neighbourhood a few years ago because of a hoarder. Blech.

i remember seeing a classic steve wilkos episode with a hoarder whose kids wanted her to clean her house. this bitch was a hag. she accused steve of 'becoming lazy' since he got his own show since he said he has a housekeeper. she said that he had no right to say anything since he didn't pay the bills in her house. she kept denying the place was dirty but said it was clean. her kids claimed she had about 90 animals in total. the daughter said she found a dead puppy and bird in the freezer. then at the end of the episode, they had some company come clean her house and she wouldn't let them do their job, screaming at them.

i hate people they freak me out
sugarless_girl 6th-Dec-2012 12:56 am (UTC)
Holy shit, that bitch needs to be put in jail FOREVER
pauldrons 6th-Dec-2012 01:36 am (UTC)
On most occasions I've watched this show, for like the majority of these houses I just think they should bulldoze and burn 'em down. Not even worth saving, too far gone. And yet, they still try. I seriously don't get it, because to me, places like this will never, ever be clean enough, ever again.
hannahgrace456 6th-Dec-2012 06:52 pm (UTC)
The houses that have decomposing animals and food in them should be bulldozed imo. There is no way that could ever return to a healthy living environment.
luvlorn 7th-Dec-2012 07:05 am (UTC)
I agree with you but then again there are people who make good money cleaning up crime scenes and they make those livable again (I really would not want to know if something like that had happened in a place I lived though).
wauwy 7th-Dec-2012 08:48 pm (UTC)
It's less about trying to save the house than trying to help the people with this mental illness, at least in theory.

Of course it's all exploited to hell and back.
pauldrons 8th-Dec-2012 09:15 pm (UTC)
Oh sure, I get that aspect. I am focusing on the state of the houses too much, I guess, whenever I've watched it.
stellawuzadiver 6th-Dec-2012 03:54 am (UTC)
On Demand channel, here I come.
luvlorn 7th-Dec-2012 07:06 am (UTC)
lol I love how there's mostly comments about how people couldn't watch the show and then there's this one and one asking for a link to an ep.

I'm probably going to watch it on-demand too, lol.
conquistadora 6th-Dec-2012 05:07 am (UTC)
I don't understand how you can just ignore any kind of rot in your house let alone bodies...

The last ep I watched was where the sewage had overrun throughout a couple's house and they thought they could keep stuff that had feces all over it... And then there was the dead cat behind the fridge. The formula for Hoarders is obviously DEAD!CATS + X(FECES) = $$$.
thats_my_story 6th-Dec-2012 07:17 am (UTC)
Hoarder or not, I would cry hysterically if someone told me my cat had to be put down. Reading the description of this episode is downright horrifying, though. Like I just can't wrap my mind around the animal abuse and neglect. A hoarder was invited into an art therapy session I was in, and all she wanted to do was take everyone's art out of the garbage so they asked her to leave :\ My friend laughed about it (and to this day still makes jokes), but I just felt really sad she couldn't get the help she needed.
andieray 6th-Dec-2012 01:03 pm (UTC)
Oh my god.
