Think the new Star Trek Into Darkness poster looks familiar?

So does Slashfilm!

Briefly: The world will get their first look at the trailer, and prologue, of J.J. Abrams' 2013 sequel, Star Trek Into Darkness, later this month but we now have a glimpse at the first teaser poster for the film. It seems to show Benedict Cumberbatch's character at the base of a mass of rubble. Star Fleet, perhaps? (noooooooooooooooooo) Check it out below:

Does this look familiar? It feels like we've seen this poster before...

Read the synopsis of the film. What do you think of the poster?

In Summer 2013, pioneering director J.J. Abrams will deliver an explosive action thriller that takes Star Trek Into Darkness. When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.

With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction. As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew.

dedradawn 3rd-Dec-2012 10:22 pm (UTC)
Seems to be a successful poster.

(Cumberbatch!)
nocturnedaeva 3rd-Dec-2012 10:23 pm (UTC)
wow I hadn't noticed the similarities in those posters. They run out of ideas apparently.
genbu_no_miko24 3rd-Dec-2012 10:23 pm (UTC)

I think we could play this game with every single movie poster ever tbh. They all follow some kind of similar structure depending on genre.
theactualworst 3rd-Dec-2012 10:30 pm (UTC)
Ikr? I mean how much variability can rom-com posters possibly have?
bellwetherr 4th-Dec-2012 03:58 pm (UTC)
lol seriously. i mean, we've all seen the nicholas sparks posters.
rctshack 3rd-Dec-2012 10:44 pm (UTC)
yah, these things come in waves. Same could be said about a lot of different movies from the same time periods. Having the logo of the franchise with someone silhouetted in front of it is not something batman started.
nebulous_mirage 3rd-Dec-2012 10:24 pm (UTC)
The marketing team needs more original ideas.
scotchsour 3rd-Dec-2012 10:26 pm (UTC)
Marketing is the definition of where original ideas go to die.
nebulous_mirage 3rd-Dec-2012 10:29 pm (UTC)
yeah, it sucks. as a marketing major planning on going into the film industry, i am a bit worried.
brownxeyedxdork 3rd-Dec-2012 10:24 pm (UTC)
So basically it's the new blue/orange trend.

Anyways it's not as good as the original teaser posters for they had at Comic-con for nu!trek.
moonisaballoon 3rd-Dec-2012 10:40 pm (UTC)
ot but omg your icon! I finally saw that last night and he was the sassiest most fabulous little bitch.

god this is so irritating. posters generally have themes within genres/years, it's not a big deal.

right?
masterofmystery 3rd-Dec-2012 10:39 pm (UTC)
the fact that there's a nicolas sparks movie poster theme/trend...

we get it, sparks, these white couples wanna make out.

Ha it even has blue and orange.
