Prince William and Kate Middleton Expecting First Child

Prince William and his wife Kate Middleton are expecting their first child, the palace announced today.

"Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Cambridge is expecting a baby," the palace said in a statement today. "The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall and Prince Harry and members of both families are delighted with the news."

I'll probably be dead before this child is the monarch. The queen is practically immortal, I wouldn't be surprised if Charles and William live into their 80s too.
fluorescentx 3rd-Dec-2012 05:08 pm (UTC)
gah hopefully I'll get to see a bit of his/her reign but damn this comment made me feel old.
skeet_skeet 3rd-Dec-2012 05:12 pm (UTC)
Medical science plus long lived families are a mess. These people just don't die.

Do you remember how long the Queen Mother lived? It was insane.
juteux 3rd-Dec-2012 05:15 pm (UTC)
Almost 102! I sort of hope Charles abdicates but I know he never will.

Finally. I'd hope she's past her first trimester with the announcement.
Congrats to them! She's going to gain some weight and look great again, I'm sure.
h0tfuss 3rd-Dec-2012 05:19 pm (UTC)
She was photographed just last week and wasn't showing at all. Not even all-over weight in the 10 lb range. She's in the hospital so they probably felt they couldn't keep it quiet.
winegums 3rd-Dec-2012 05:35 pm (UTC)
ia, her going to the hospital was probably what finally forced them to make the announcement - no way to keep it quiet after that.
ohkkrista 3rd-Dec-2012 05:36 pm (UTC)
yeah they actually said she isn't past 12 weeks. Sad.
sugary_placenta 3rd-Dec-2012 06:57 pm (UTC)
why is she in the hospital?
vonlisbon 3rd-Dec-2012 05:08 pm (UTC)
Aw lawd my mom's gonna start snatchin' up the People magazines now.
lfitzb 3rd-Dec-2012 05:18 pm (UTC)
lulzzz first thing I thought about. "GOTTA GET THE PEOPLE MAGS"
la_petite_singe 3rd-Dec-2012 05:08 pm (UTC)
Really?? It's official now? I mean, tabloids have been saying this since the wedding, obvs. Well, congrats, though I have to wonder--like, what if she couldn't have kids? It was just way too expected and kinda demanded of them, I guess. I've always found the whole thing a little skeevy, like with the way they used to check if women marrying into the royal family were virgins or whatever. But they seem like a cute couple, so okay.
skeet_skeet 3rd-Dec-2012 05:15 pm (UTC)
Well royal families are obsessed with succession historically. I mean nowadays it isn't so bad since wars won't break out over it. If Kate couldn't have a child then it would be the responsibility of the next in line to produce an heir, poor Harry. lol
la_petite_singe 3rd-Dec-2012 05:17 pm (UTC)
I mean, it makes sense with the structure of the system, it just seems a little antiquated and a bit sexist in some respects. :\
fluorescentx 3rd-Dec-2012 05:18 pm (UTC)
yep it's being reported on all major UK news outlets!
h0tfuss 3rd-Dec-2012 05:21 pm (UTC)
Kate's primary "job description" is to produce an heir. I can't imagine what would happen in this modern age if she had trouble conceiving, but I don't think it's even an option for her to not want kids.
anabanana0714 3rd-Dec-2012 05:24 pm (UTC)
There's no way the palace would have let William marry her if she couldn't have kids. You know they tested her FSH levels before they announced that engagement.
arista_artisan 3rd-Dec-2012 05:08 pm (UTC)
The Queen is hft ofc.

fluorescentx 3rd-Dec-2012 05:09 pm (UTC)
another day, another great grandchild.
starswept 3rd-Dec-2012 05:12 pm (UTC)
The confetti blowing in front of her just completes this, imo
ohsofierce_x3 3rd-Dec-2012 05:16 pm (UTC)
Been there, done that, Churchill was my *first* Prime Minister.
pippa_middleton 3rd-Dec-2012 05:30 pm (UTC)
I'm always afraid she's just going to drop dead on live TV. It would be equal parts amazing and horrifying.
jaimelannister 3rd-Dec-2012 07:22 pm (UTC)
Nope, she's gonna live forever. Or at least outlive Charles.
urizanegao 3rd-Dec-2012 05:09 pm (UTC)
Twins. I'm calling it now.

Fingers crossed this bb gets some of Prince Harry's wildchild genes so one day we can be a party kingdom.
muted_hitokiri 3rd-Dec-2012 08:12 pm (UTC)
Considering what most town centres look like on any given Fiday night, I don't think we need this bb's help on that one...
hollis1975 3rd-Dec-2012 05:12 pm (UTC)
theme song for this bb:

black_blasphemy 3rd-Dec-2012 05:13 pm (UTC)
just waiting for the british bookmakers to have their odds! "1 in 400 for the child to be named kim kardashian!" "1 in 1000 to have for octuplets!"

if i was living there, i'd go broke gambling on these
fluorescentx 3rd-Dec-2012 05:16 pm (UTC)
just boring ones rn
"what colour hair will the bb have?"
"how much will the bb weigh?"

come on I want some wild ones!
black_blasphemy 3rd-Dec-2012 05:17 pm (UTC)
:( where do you see them? i'm on william hill and ladbrokes rn but i can't seem to find them.

i looove the crazy bets they do

hobnailedboots 3rd-Dec-2012 05:29 pm (UTC)
lol we already had odds before the announcement; you just had to phone up. A bunch of people have made bets in my shop hoping for it to be named David, for some reason
astrologee 3rd-Dec-2012 05:15 pm (UTC)
YAY!

ugh i can't wait to see the mean covers about "the royal's miscarry" or some shit. (SARCASM) considering there were so many pregnancy rumours when they got engaged & right after they got married. so maybe there weren't a lot of covers, but still.

winegums 3rd-Dec-2012 05:45 pm (UTC)
Considering that they were probably forced to make the announcement bc Kate had to go to hospital, it's prob. VERY early stages (she's nowhere near showing) and miscarriage is a sadly high risk during that time :/
astrologee 3rd-Dec-2012 06:00 pm (UTC)
aww :( :/ i hope she gets out of the hospital okay!
everybodysmile 4th-Dec-2012 11:13 am (UTC)
Just curious, how common are miscarriages (for the average pregnancy)?
juteux 3rd-Dec-2012 05:15 pm (UTC)
William's great-great-grandmother was Cecilia which I think would be a nice possibility for a girl.
trich_tangents 3rd-Dec-2012 05:36 pm (UTC)
That's the name I have picked out for a girl. Decided on it when I was 13, and it hasn't changed. Cecilia Felicity.
tingyin 3rd-Dec-2012 07:01 pm (UTC)
gosh that's pretty. it sounds very English rose (which i've no idea if you are or your bb will be)
hollis1975 3rd-Dec-2012 05:15 pm (UTC)
ok who wants to bet kim kardashian will be pregnant by feb?
