The Trevor Project to Honor Katy Perry with Trevor Hero Award

The Trevor Project will honor international superstar Katy Perry with the Trevor Hero Award this Sunday. Presented at the Project's annual Trevor Live events, The Hero Award honors men and women who are an inspiration to youth and increase visibility and understanding of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and questioning (LGBTQ) community.

“The Trevor Project is proud to honor Katy Perry with the Trevor Hero Award,” Abbe Land, Executive Director and CEO of The Trevor Project, said in a statement. “Her message inspires and empowers youth to know they have value and that they are deserving of equality, regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.”

The Trevor Project will honor Perry at the The Hollywood Palladium's Trevor Live event this Sunday (December 2). Previous Trevor Hero Award honorees include Lady Gaga, Susan Sarandon, and Daniel Radcliffe.

Katy earned the Trevor Hero Award for speaking out as an ally to the LGBTQ community and inspiring youth to find their spark in her music video “Firework.” The Trevor Project also admires Perry for encouraging men and women to stay true to themselves.

“Everyone deserves a wonderful, fulfilled life. Our sexual orientation or gender identity doesn't change the spark and beauty within,” said Katy Perry. “I’m honored that The Trevor Project has selected me to receive the Trevor Hero Award. Their work has inspired me since 2010, and I know they help save lives.”

Trevor Live is an evening of music, comedy, and entertainment and will feature appearances by some of the biggest names in the industry. Amy Poehler, Jane Lynch, Adam Shankman, and Christa B. Allen are just a few celebs slated to attend the upcoming event.

The Trevor Project is the leading national organization providing crisis intervention and suicide prevention services to lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning young people under 24. The Trevor Project serves the LGBT community through free and confidential lifeline and instant messaging services, in-school workshops, educational materials, online resources, advocacy, and more.
