Vegan Anne Hathaway flaunts 25-lb weight loss

Actress Anne Hathaway, who lost 25 pounds on a crash diet for the film, "Les Misérables," looks sporty and sassy in the January 2013 issue of Glamour.

The slender 5-foot-8 Anne dons a white tank top and black underwear that accentuate her lean thighs. Hathaway, 30, admitted she essentially starved herself to look the part of the emaciated Fantine in the tragedy, "Les Misérables."

"I had to be obsessive about it; the idea was to look near death," Hathaway told Vogue. "Looking back on the whole experience, it was definitely a little nuts. It was definitely a break with reality, but I think that’s who Fantine is anyway."

Anne lost 10 pounds before shooting began, and then lost another 15 pounds during a two-week break in filming by eating only two thin squares of dried oatmeal paste a day. Hathaway's competitive personality enabled her to stick to her extreme low-calorie diet.

"I like to fight for a job," she says. "You feel like you've emerged from the scrap, and you're like, 'OK, this one's mine. Did it. Done.' "

Transforming herself physically is nothing new for the dedicated Anne, who worked out five days a week to play Catwoman in "The Dark Knight Rises." In addition to gym workouts, Hathaway underwent stunt training, did strength exercises as well as 90 minutes of dance every day.

Anne, who switched to a vegan diet while training for "The Dark Knight Rises," has really embraced the plant-based eating plan.

"I don't go the soy-meat route; I have a really plant-based diet," she said. "So I wind up cooking at home a lot. Kale is amazing. Spelt [a kind of wheat] pasta is amazing. I can't do the white-flour stuff. It makes me really ill."

That is absolutely nothing like what you described in your comment. Do you think the farmer gets up on the cow and deposits his own semen into it and impregnates it that way? Because yes, that would be rape (not to mention biologically impossible). If mechanically inducing pregnancy by machine were sexual intercourse AS YOU JUST CLAIMED IN TWO CONSECUTIVE COMMENTS, then every IVF doctor everywhere has raped their patients. That is exactly what you are saying. I don't even need to end this comment with 'you dumbfuck' because it's so clearly implied.

IVF requires consent though so it can't be rape. a farmer artificially inseminating a dairy animal is completely different since the animal just can't consent. idk why this is so hard to understand.

What I don't understand is how you think it is AT all comparable to the trauma of ACTUAL rape. But by all means, go into a rape survivor's counselling session and tell everyone there they deserved it for eating meat.

i'm not going into a rape survivors counseling session and saying they deserved it for eating meat lol no one deserves to be raped no matter what their diet is. how is the artificial insemination of a sentient being using sexual intercourse without their consent not rape? if a medical professional done that to a human they would lose their license and be charged with rape. why can't the same thing be said about a nonhuman? why should nonhumans and humans both have moral status? cause thats really what your comments are pointing at- the idea that humans are morally superior than nonhumans and that we can do things that are deemed inhumane to us, to nonhumans just cause they are nonhumans.

No, I am arguing against your incorrect use of 'sexual intercourse' as your justifier, and the fact that you would DEHUMANIZE anyone to the extent as to think that a cow and they have the same reaction to being raped. Do you think a cow has the same reaction as a human being to seeing a plane crash into a building? No. Because the cow has no fucking idea about context.
alouds 2nd-Dec-2012 01:16 pm (UTC)
a cow witnessing a plane crash into a building isn't the same as a cow consenting to the artificial insemination of their body. do you think a cow doesn't experience the some of the same things a human does when going through pregnancy? we're both mammals. we can't speak to a cow so why should we do things to it's body for our own benefit? we wouldn't do the same to humans who can't talk either.

I can't tell if you're arguing the point just to argue, or if you are actually THAT fucking dense. So go ahead and spout some more bullshit at me, I added your username to the delete list. My junk mail folder will grow fat on your idiocy.

hopefully one day you understand what speciesism is and realizes that all animals (including humans) are persons if they are sentient. thanks for playing.
praiseheathus 2nd-Dec-2012 03:38 pm (UTC)
speciesism isn't a thing jsyk
alouds 2nd-Dec-2012 03:44 pm (UTC)
uh yes it is, maybe you should look it up a bit more before jumping to conclusions.

You do realize that for AI to work, the cow must be in heat, right? All they want at that moment is to get laid. Also, dairy cows will keep producing milk as long as they're milked, pregnant or no. /someone who worked on cattle farms
alouds 2nd-Dec-2012 04:04 pm (UTC)
so dairy cows produce milk even if they have never been pregnant before? i didn't know this, can you tell me more since you have worked on a cattle farm?
mistress_infy 2nd-Dec-2012 04:08 pm (UTC)
Actually, it's not unheard of for mammals of any species to start producing milk if they're stimulated properly. I was referring more to the fact that cows aren't endlessly inseminated--it's once, they have a calf, and then they begin the process of being milked.

AI is generally safer for everyone involved, including the animals. There's a reason it's used for pretty much every domesticated animal ever. I'm not sure if you've ever been around a randy bull with cows in heat, but it's not pretty. They've been known to vent their frustration on the cows. :/
alouds 2nd-Dec-2012 04:19 pm (UTC)
well SOME cows are endlessly inseminated in factory farming cause don't they produce more milk for their calf that way? and in doing so, we make cows an object to benefit from. thats what i have a problem with. i know AI in general is safer anyway (except when ppl abuse the cows but abuse is abuse anyway which isnt very nice lol)
mistress_infy 2nd-Dec-2012 04:25 pm (UTC)
No, cows are just like any other mammal: They make as much milk as is demanded of them. I'm...not following your thinking about making them an animal to benefit from, but to each their own. I've made it no secret that I hunt, fish, and trap my own food whenever possible. I have issues with the meat industry in the US, but here in Sweden it's pretty great.
