Vegan Anne Hathaway flaunts 25-lb weight loss

Actress Anne Hathaway, who lost 25 pounds on a crash diet for the film, "Les Misérables," looks sporty and sassy in the January 2013 issue of Glamour.

The slender 5-foot-8 Anne dons a white tank top and black underwear that accentuate her lean thighs. Hathaway, 30, admitted she essentially starved herself to look the part of the emaciated Fantine in the tragedy, "Les Misérables."

"I had to be obsessive about it; the idea was to look near death," Hathaway told Vogue. "Looking back on the whole experience, it was definitely a little nuts. It was definitely a break with reality, but I think that’s who Fantine is anyway."

Anne lost 10 pounds before shooting began, and then lost another 15 pounds during a two-week break in filming by eating only two thin squares of dried oatmeal paste a day. Hathaway's competitive personality enabled her to stick to her extreme low-calorie diet.

"I like to fight for a job," she says. "You feel like you've emerged from the scrap, and you're like, 'OK, this one's mine. Did it. Done.' "

Transforming herself physically is nothing new for the dedicated Anne, who worked out five days a week to play Catwoman in "The Dark Knight Rises." In addition to gym workouts, Hathaway underwent stunt training, did strength exercises as well as 90 minutes of dance every day.

Anne, who switched to a vegan diet while training for "The Dark Knight Rises," has really embraced the plant-based eating plan.

"I don't go the soy-meat route; I have a really plant-based diet," she said. "So I wind up cooking at home a lot. Kale is amazing. Spelt [a kind of wheat] pasta is amazing. I can't do the white-flour stuff. It makes me really ill."

I would call it the artificial insemination of a being that can't consent. Calling it rape is factually wrong and a HUGE fucking insult to everyone who has ACTUALLY been raped.

last time i checked rape was the sexual assault including sexual intercourse of one person against the consent of another? that's exactly what i described in my comment. it's only a huge insult to everyone who thinks nonhumans aren't persons, and that humans are to be held at a higher moral status than nonhumans which is what veganism argues is wrong.

That is absolutely nothing like what you described in your comment. Do you think the farmer gets up on the cow and deposits his own semen into it and impregnates it that way? Because yes, that would be rape (not to mention biologically impossible). If mechanically inducing pregnancy by machine were sexual intercourse AS YOU JUST CLAIMED IN TWO CONSECUTIVE COMMENTS, then every IVF doctor everywhere has raped their patients. That is exactly what you are saying. I don't even need to end this comment with 'you dumbfuck' because it's so clearly implied.

IVF requires consent though so it can't be rape. a farmer artificially inseminating a dairy animal is completely different since the animal just can't consent. idk why this is so hard to understand.

What I don't understand is how you think it is AT all comparable to the trauma of ACTUAL rape. But by all means, go into a rape survivor's counselling session and tell everyone there they deserved it for eating meat.

i'm not going into a rape survivors counseling session and saying they deserved it for eating meat lol no one deserves to be raped no matter what their diet is. how is the artificial insemination of a sentient being using sexual intercourse without their consent not rape? if a medical professional done that to a human they would lose their license and be charged with rape. why can't the same thing be said about a nonhuman? why should nonhumans and humans both have moral status? cause thats really what your comments are pointing at- the idea that humans are morally superior than nonhumans and that we can do things that are deemed inhumane to us, to nonhumans just cause they are nonhumans.

You can't anthropomorphize animals like that. Lots of animal species "rape" each other, if you were going by human standards for rape. It's not the same thing.
alouds 2nd-Dec-2012 03:25 pm (UTC)
yeah but we can't help what different species do to eachother can we? but we can help what we do to species that are different to us, you know?
ediesedgwick 2nd-Dec-2012 03:32 pm (UTC)
Or, someone who truly did respected animals would realize that all animals do not think and perceive experiences like humans -- for example, they do not have the same concept of consent and rape that people have -- and respect animals for the way they ACTUALLY are, not the way we perceive they are through a lens of anthropomorphism.

yeah thats why i dont think animals breeding out in the wild is rape. i do, however, think what goes on in factory farming is rape. if a farmer keeps a bull and a cow out on the farm they own, and those 2 animals just so happen to breed, thats completely different. then it turns to a commodification debate.

You are up and down one of the few people making sense in this post lol.

just asking out of curiosity about the part 'they do not have the same concept of consent and rape that people have'. Does that justify bestiality? No shade or whatever, just wondering how to go about that, then, if animals can't be raped.

oh my god are you this fucking stupid

"rape" isn't just a word in the dictionary you can trot out whenever you want

it's a political and psychological label that has DEEP MEANING beyond the literal boundaries of the definition. you can't call artificial cow insemination rape because that cheapens and insults real RAPE victims. it's a label that has power and implications and you can't just throw it around.

I respect the shit out of animals but animals aren't "persons." My god. Please tell me you are like 12 years old just googling shit because you actually don't know what you're talking about? Cause your argument is sad and was flawed from the get go.

ive realized that the whole rape comparison is really offensive given the moral differences between humans and nonhumans. i've changed my mind over it and won't ever be making that comparison again.
