hmmm..i'm trying to find music for my two 10 year old nieces...i bought them ipods for christmas and want to load them up with some music, but it's not easy to find appropriate songs
vanishingbee 1st-Dec-2012 06:28 pm (UTC)
paul simon's graceland is a classic album + appropriate for young children :) don't be afraid to go a little bit back in time-- the pop stuff they're listening to is full of innuendo full-stop, so don't give it TOO much worry.
phammypak 1st-Dec-2012 06:42 pm (UTC)
Are you trying to broaden their spectrum of music? What do they normally listen to? My 11 year old nephew plays the guitar, and it seems like his mom only lets him listen to Coldplay, Maroon 5, Jason Mraz, Keane, and Jack Johnson. I want to make him a compilation, but I think his mom is afraid I'll corrupt him or something.

phammypak 1st-Dec-2012 06:32 pm (UTC)
That's exactly how I am.
ponpiri 1st-Dec-2012 07:00 pm (UTC)
Same. I have 2 days worth of new music I still have to listen to but I've been getting down with Xtina for a couple of months.
redaodai 1st-Dec-2012 06:27 pm (UTC)
<3 Jessie Ware.
prophecypro 1st-Dec-2012 06:27 pm (UTC)
Oh come on NME, you gave Life is Good an 8/10 and you telling my nigga Nas couldnt get on the best of the year list especially when I see albums that were rated lower on here?
I know Im a stan for him but that album got tons of good reviews and had people saying it was a legit contender for Hip-Hop album of the year. It was better than Cruel Summer for sure.
And Kendrick needs to be higher.
foryoursake08 1st-Dec-2012 06:27 pm (UTC)
Umm...where is Rush? Clockwork Angels is AMAZING. One of their best albums and that's saying something because I love all of their albums.
robalunch 1st-Dec-2012 06:27 pm (UTC)
Yes @ Tame Impala, Grimes, CC, Catpower, Spiritualized and Kendrick.
Can someone please link me to Metz? I'm intrigued and I can't find a link anywhere.
we_eat_coldcuts 1st-Dec-2012 06:44 pm (UTC)
I saw Metz 6 times when they were here for CMJ. Outside of Swans probably my favorite live show I saw all year. Their record is good, but the songs are very similar in nature, which is good and bad. As I was typing this my upload finished, so here ya go.

I guess it was kind of an underwhelming year for music. Even some of the artists that I really like put out rather disappointing albums.

My hopes for 2013...
Jai Paul needs to make an album.
lesbilletsdoux Re: Predictions/hopes for 2013?1st-Dec-2012 06:36 pm (UTC)
ia 2012 wasn't great for music, but some of the albums on this list are pretty decent

i really hope 2013 brings a cohesive strokes album, because angles was just a mess

Pop radio is gonna go full 80s revival imo It's already slowly happening with Bruno's music and P!nk's new single.
bookwormrach 1st-Dec-2012 06:34 pm (UTC)

piratesswoop 1st-Dec-2012 06:36 pm (UTC)

onyxobsidian 1st-Dec-2012 06:36 pm (UTC)
Out of all these albums, I think I have heard 1 song, and that's 'cause Frank Ocean was on SNL.
bloolikejazz 1st-Dec-2012 06:41 pm (UTC)

onyxobsidian 1st-Dec-2012 06:36 pm (UTC)

Tame Impala are the modern Beatles and you'll deal :)
bloolikejazz 1st-Dec-2012 06:52 pm (UTC)
Ugh did you miss the part where I wrote I'm seeing them in concert? I like them alright, it's just very typical of NME to publish a list like this!
