Gotye’s “Somebody That I Used To Know” has nabbed the dubious honor of being Spotify’s most popular track of 2012, a year in which the world fell in love with bland, vaguely electro ballads. It narrowly beat out Carly Rae Jepsen’s summer juggernaut “Call Me Maybe,” which came in second. Also making the list of the world’s mildest and broadly palatable singles are fun.’s “We Are Young,” Train’s “Drive By,” and not one but two songs from Flo Rida, who made the chart with “Whistle” and “Wild Ones.”
The most frequently streamed group in 2012 was Coldplay, while David Guetta and Rihanna nabbed most-streamed male and female, respectively.

"whistle" being so popular is physically painful for me. that euphemism always leads to bad music. see also:
wasn't it a really hard song to do on heavy or something?

animal by neon trees? :(
i mean that's basically how their last album and the music they put out as the format received, iirc, so...??
I'm not saying they're right, but this is pretty standard in terms of how I've heard hipsters talk about the new album.
is fun. the exact same group of people as the format?
kimbra's verse is amaaaazing
I am really not here for all the Gotye shade on ONTD lately. It's a good song. It was overplayed into infinity, but it was a good song and a clever video. He is ridiculously talented. He plays almost all of the instruments on his albums and mixes them himself. He samples heavily and is creative as a fuck.
Plus, he is adorbs/charming
I'm entering into a STAN RAGE.

That song could have been some obnoxious nice guy anthem and then it's told form Kimbra pov and it's just a really well crafted song.
idk about the Lumineers tho
i went to his concert in london a couple weeks back and at one point nobody would shut up for the quiet songs so he said OK WHO IS HERE JUST FOR THAT ONE SONG ON THE RADIO? and loads of people cheered and then he said WHO JUST WANTS TO HEAR THAT SONG AND GO HOME? and people cheered so they played that song and made all the sopranos~ in the audience sing the kimbra part by putting the mic on us. :p
also i hung around outside in the cold for an hour or so cause i wanted to meet him and then his managed invited us back up for the last few minutes or so of the 'afterparty' so we could meet him! gosh he's so lovely and nice irl and skinny as fuck. sIGH <3
