Freida Pinto is heading to Dubai this December as part of the Dubai International Film Festival. She is set to join the jury to select the winner for the Shorts and Emirati section – short films from the Arab, Emirati and Asian African countries. This makes Freida the first Indian to be on the judges’ panel at the film festival. she has also been invited to attend a special gala hosted by Academy Award winning actor Colin Firth and his fashion entrepreneur wife Livia to support the annual 'One Night to Change Lives' charity event to benefit Oxfam and Dubai Cares on December 14th. Last year's event raised over USD 1 million, funding 14 regional schools and 10 schools in Pakistan.

The festival will kick start on Dec 9 and will come to a close on Dec 16. Other international stars expected include Cate Blanchett, Colin Firth, Rooney Mara, Kirsten Davis, Cuba Gooding Jr among many others.

Everyone's leaving Dubai though. The job market is atrocious.

In terms of vacancies or just whats available? Cause its seems the service sector is always going up when they're constantly opening new things, but I figured the finance sector has capped out. I know some companies are downsizing on an international level so a few Dubai offices have slimmed or closed down.

A bit of both, really. There aren't many new projects so all the engineers I know had to find new stuff. The only people I know who haven't had a problem is a barrister and her mum who teaches at the international school. There seems to be nothing unless you're a poor Pakistani or Indian looking to be exploited by a construction company.
They're constantly opening new shops because the things that were there previously closed. I was there for 6 months a few years back (my parents lived there until earlier this yr) and the only things that didn't change hands were places like Ikea, Hyperpanda, Carrefour and Costas. Weirdly, the local Paris Hilton shopped stayed open the whole time even though I never saw anyone in there, ever.
Phew, so many words!

Have you been to Antiques Warehouse? That place makes up for most of the atrociousness of the rest of Dubai :)

why? I'd rather live in Dubai than any other place in the whole world.
