Taylor Swift: "I don't want to marry young. I'm enjoying my 20s."

Taylor Swift doesn't expect to settle down anytime soon. In a recent interview with Parade, she revealed: “People think I want to get married really young—I don’t know why. I’m a romantic person, but that doesn’t mean I want to miss out on being in my young 20s.”

Despite writing about it so prolifically, Swift claims not to know much about love. “I tend to think things are love and then look back and reevaluate,” she said. How many times has she been in love? “I know how many people I’ve said ‘I love you’ to. I could probably count it up, but I don’t feel like it. If I end up getting married and having kids, that’s when I’ll know it’s real—because it lasted.”

Swift is currently linked to One Direction singer Harry Styles. After a brief fling in April, the couple reconnected at the VMA Awards in September. There was "some serious flirting going on" between the pair at London's Teen Awards on October 7, according to BBC Radio One DJ Aled Jones. They arranged to have an intimate dinner at the upmarket Luton Hoo Hotel later that evening, but the reservation was cancelled after word of the booking was leaked to The Sun newspaper.

They were "holding hands and flirting all day" at the X Factor television studio in Los Angeles on November 14, as confirmed by the show's host Mario Lopez. Styles sat with Swift's mother during her rehearsal and sang along. "After she finished, he went up to the stage. They were joking and laughing. He picked her up and threw her over his shoulder and carried her off."

Styles has named Swift as one of his celebrity crushes, telling the October issue of Seventeen: "She honestly couldn't be a sweeter person. She's genuinely nice and extremely talented, and she deserves everything she has."

In November, Styles told Cosmopolitan that he was currently dating someone: "There's someone I like. If you're shown in the papers with other girls when you really like someone else, that's difficult. But still, I think it's important if you're thinking about starting a relationship to do it away from the spotlight. I thought I [had a type] but this girl I like isn't my 'type'. It's more about the person. How they act, their body language, if they can laugh at themselves. I find ambition really attractive too - if someone's good at something they love doing. I want someone who is driven."

my_moloko 30th-Nov-2012 06:55 am (UTC)
:( That is the worst reason to get married. I don't understand why people don't just take precautions and have sex.

i know a few girls like this. i can't even imagine marrying your first bf. what an awful divorce in the horizon.
la_nostalgia 30th-Nov-2012 09:49 am (UTC)
tbh I know two couples who were each other's firsts and they're well into double digits of marriage rn
cerseilannister 30th-Nov-2012 10:07 am (UTC)
yeah, i know some marriages like that (small town & ppl just get married young), but i've also seen lots ppl who were hs sweethearts and are miserable rn.
i feel like it's more common for young ppl to get divorced when things start to go sour these days tho. a divorce/first breakup sounds like such shit to go through yikes.
crup 30th-Nov-2012 11:51 am (UTC)
seriously. not only is it the first time you've experienced a break up, but it's fucking expensive and can take a looong time. i took my first real break up pretty hard so i can't imagine what it would have been like if it had actually been a divorce...

My husband and I got engaged after 3 1/2 months and married after 7 1/2. But we're old farts and knew what we wanted.

My mother-in law married her 2nd husband--married, not just engaged--2 months after he contacted her on a dating site. And they're still happily married after 15 years! It's weird because all her previous romantic relationships were crappy, but then she meets this guy and is so confident about him so fast--and apparently she was right!
