Taylor Swift: "I don't want to marry young. I'm enjoying my 20s."

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Taylor Swift doesn't expect to settle down anytime soon. In a recent interview with Parade, she revealed: “People think I want to get married really young—I don’t know why. I’m a romantic person, but that doesn’t mean I want to miss out on being in my young 20s.”

Despite writing about it so prolifically, Swift claims not to know much about love. “I tend to think things are love and then look back and reevaluate,” she said. How many times has she been in love? “I know how many people I’ve said ‘I love you’ to. I could probably count it up, but I don’t feel like it. If I end up getting married and having kids, that’s when I’ll know it’s real—because it lasted.”

Swift is currently linked to One Direction singer Harry Styles. After a brief fling in April, the couple reconnected at the VMA Awards in September. There was "some serious flirting going on" between the pair at London's Teen Awards on October 7, according to BBC Radio One DJ Aled Jones. They arranged to have an intimate dinner at the upmarket Luton Hoo Hotel later that evening, but the reservation was cancelled after word of the booking was leaked to The Sun newspaper.

They were "holding hands and flirting all day" at the X Factor television studio in Los Angeles on November 14, as confirmed by the show's host Mario Lopez. Styles sat with Swift's mother during her rehearsal and sang along. "After she finished, he went up to the stage. They were joking and laughing. He picked her up and threw her over his shoulder and carried her off."

Styles has named Swift as one of his celebrity crushes, telling the October issue of Seventeen: "She honestly couldn't be a sweeter person. She's genuinely nice and extremely talented, and she deserves everything she has."

In November, Styles told Cosmopolitan that he was currently dating someone: "There's someone I like. If you're shown in the papers with other girls when you really like someone else, that's difficult. But still, I think it's important if you're thinking about starting a relationship to do it away from the spotlight. I thought I [had a type] but this girl I like isn't my 'type'. It's more about the person. How they act, their body language, if they can laugh at themselves. I find ambition really attractive too - if someone's good at something they love doing. I want someone who is driven."

My bff got married at 24, the guy is SCUM, and she's usually miserable.

juggarnut 30th-Nov-2012 06:30 am (UTC)
they broke up?? lol
talklikelions 30th-Nov-2012 06:39 am (UTC)
they had a boring breakup and are still friends, so the media forgets about it bc it can't paint her as a ~slut or a crazy bitch.

I think she looks stunning in pics...the problem is how damn annoying she is in motion.
tingyin 30th-Nov-2012 05:17 pm (UTC)
hit the nail on the head there hon. i can't stand her performances--homegirl acts out/punctuates every line

LOL I totally get what you mean, though.
distant_lines 30th-Nov-2012 06:29 am (UTC)
I've already warned my family that I'll probably just call them up one day and say I'm getting married, but to not flip out because we've been together for years. I don't think my mom believes me, but that's because she has no idea that I've kept every single boy related thing from her since high school. I'm totally open with her about everything but that. For some reason, relationships just aren't what I share with my family.
callista88 30th-Nov-2012 08:04 am (UTC)
god me too. My mom never figured out who I liked (well she probably did lbr) and I never told her. It wasn't until I actually had a long term boyfriend that I even told my family I was dating. Although tbh I think they were relieved I wasn't interested in women.
so_forgotten 30th-Nov-2012 09:24 am (UTC)
I'm glad I'm not the only one like this! I've been in a relationship with a guy for a month now and my best friend keeps on asking me when I'm gonna tell my parents. I have never told them about my previous boyfriends and I probably won't start now.

i'd totally do that tbh
hoot 30th-Nov-2012 01:22 pm (UTC)
I've seriously considered doing that. I don't want a wedding but I know if I got engaged I'd be pressured into it by my family, so a secret wedding sounds like a good plan to me. :P
tackyblue 30th-Nov-2012 05:04 pm (UTC)

to be fair, she whines about heartbreak, not the possibility of losing a fiance
watchsnowfall 30th-Nov-2012 06:27 am (UTC)
nothing she says will convince me she doesn't date (i.e. casually sleep with) and jump straight to omg we'll make such cute babies i can totally see this lasting forever~~

if you know something's casual it doesn't hurt neaaaarly as much as her songs suggest
calcified 30th-Nov-2012 06:52 am (UTC)
The problem is her use of the world love for one-week relationships lol.
dannysstargirl 30th-Nov-2012 06:22 am (UTC)
This just reminds me of Facebook and how everyone is married and has kids.
kurtvonnegut 30th-Nov-2012 06:23 am (UTC)
post you're expecting your 3rd child, get 100 likes
post that you graduated college, get 3 likes
dannysstargirl 30th-Nov-2012 06:25 am (UTC)
sounds accurate. because having a kid is such an ~accomplishment
squirrelsarerad 30th-Nov-2012 06:28 am (UTC)
that really seems true. I have a few friends who seriously post pictures of their kids every day and get a flurry of comments and like every time like it's the first picture ever. idgi.
my_moloko 30th-Nov-2012 06:48 am (UTC)
That is depressing but so true. Which is why any time one of my friends posts about a scholastic achievement I "like" it and give them an over the top congratulatory message.
vee_bot 30th-Nov-2012 07:48 am (UTC)
misery loves company tbh
cerseilannister 30th-Nov-2012 08:19 am (UTC)
lol ain't that it
violet_crumble9 30th-Nov-2012 06:25 am (UTC)
me too.
squirrelsarerad 30th-Nov-2012 06:26 am (UTC)
same here. 75% of the posts on my facebook wall are engagement pictures, wedding pictures, wedding planning talk, baby pictures, etc.

and then there's the people who, every time their husband buys them flowers or something has to post a picture of it saying OMG I HAVE THE BEST HUBBY IN THE WORLD XOXOXO.
drunkagron 30th-Nov-2012 06:28 am (UTC)
same.
distant_lines 30th-Nov-2012 06:31 am (UTC)
Two sorority sisters of mine got engaged within like two days of each other. I'm so ready to be out of the South. Everywhere I look people are getting engaged and having babies. I'm sick of it. I want friends who aren't about finding a husband or living the perfect little fairy tale life.
h0tfuss 30th-Nov-2012 06:56 am (UTC)
I hate when they post about the bathroom stuff. Like who cares, I peed four times today too.
rhapsodeeinblue 30th-Nov-2012 06:57 am (UTC)
This is true for my boring FB friends I went to high school with. Not so much for "real" friends / people I met in more recent years, thank god.
la_geni 30th-Nov-2012 07:10 am (UTC)
There's only one friend that constantly congratulates me on my scholastic achievements (she's older by about 6 years). She's the one that told to wait to get married and have children. Go figure.
wristtattoos 30th-Nov-2012 08:19 am (UTC)
oh god, FB moms are the WORST
boundarybreaks 30th-Nov-2012 08:57 am (UTC)
almost all of my friends had babies between 16 and 18, and got married the second they turned 18. about half are separated after 6 months of marriage. i can't even go on facebook anymore.
asa_chan 30th-Nov-2012 11:52 am (UTC)
LOL the bitterness in this thread

My friends on fb ain't getting married.

/special snowflake
superchocobear 30th-Nov-2012 11:59 am (UTC)
I would read ONTD comments like 'omg I feel so old everyone on Facebook is getting married and having babies' etc and I used to be like yeah that's to be expected at like 23-ish right?

But now it's happening to me and I'm 18 seriously what is happening
cutiepie0304 30th-Nov-2012 02:17 pm (UTC)
omg tell me about it! All the women who run their own diy/craft/home improvement/ fashion blogs I read atm are either pregnant or have 2-3 little ones running aroung. It's insane. I feel like I'm surrounded by babies!
deltabean 30th-Nov-2012 02:49 pm (UTC)
I know...When did that happen?
kknee13 30th-Nov-2012 03:48 pm (UTC)
yep and 95% of the ones with kids are annoying af. I don't care that your kid just pooped on the walls or learned how to twiddle its fingers and I am not here for pics of your used breast milk pumping kits that say "I can't believe how much breast milk I pumped today" or your shirtless breast feeding on my fb either.
kurtvonnegut 30th-Nov-2012 06:22 am (UTC)
taylor looks pretty in photos then when i see her live i'm like blargh. i wish i photographed that well.
andieray 30th-Nov-2012 06:23 am (UTC)
I love how she has the stupidest, no1curr articles. Like.. what kind of food she likes to eat on the holidays. Or even... is she more of a pepper user, or a salt user?

Ugh.
emerging 30th-Nov-2012 02:07 pm (UTC)
BOTH of your icons give me life

i love penelope so much in that movie.

so glad she says this, I think when it's put this way, we all can sort of relate
crup 30th-Nov-2012 12:01 pm (UTC)
idk i think it sounds sort of bitter like when guys break up with her her immediate defense is just "well i didn't love you anyway!!!"

i like taylor but i don't really believe in this whole ~true love~ thing; i don't necessarily think that just because a relationship ends it means you weren't in love. the relationship that lasts doesn't have to demean shorter, past experiences.
pixiegerms 30th-Nov-2012 02:23 pm (UTC)
i interpreted it differently. she said she looks back and reevaluates, and i took that to mean she questions if she was really in love or just infatuated with the person. she's a romantic, so it probably happens often.
fakevoices 30th-Nov-2012 06:24 am (UTC)
good for her
i think i've come to the conclusion that i'll probably never marry :( at least not in my late 20s like i really wanted too

don't give up sis you neva know
fakevoices 30th-Nov-2012 06:27 am (UTC)
i did the math
i don't know if i'll meet someone in the next 5 years that i will want to marry :(

aw, this is me. really don't think it's going to happen.

kurtvonnegut 30th-Nov-2012 06:37 am (UTC)
don't settle tbh. with the divorce rate you've got to wonder how many people are just settling.
marionnnette 30th-Nov-2012 06:44 am (UTC)
me too. i've got too many trust issues for the marriage thing to work out for me :/
my_moloko 30th-Nov-2012 06:49 am (UTC)
I just turned 28 and I'm single so I definitely won't be married before I'm 30. :/

same here and i'm okay with it tbh.
myroomiswhite88 30th-Nov-2012 08:08 am (UTC)
Me too. Especially with my life not going right like I planned. I haven't even had a boyfriend yet.
michelleantonia 30th-Nov-2012 11:00 am (UTC)
As long as you're not doing anything because you feel you SHOULD. You really just need to go by what you want at any given point, and nothing else.

I'm 31 and I have no desire to get married or have kids any time in the forseeable future. All I'm surrounded by is weddings and babies, I'm more and more of the outcast but all the fucks I give are nonexistent. OH WELL.
thelake 30th-Nov-2012 12:53 pm (UTC)
I'm 27 and I've recently come to the same conclusion. Life is still good, I'm trying not to worry about it too much.
endingonfire 30th-Nov-2012 03:45 pm (UTC)
I'm still young-ish but based on my personality, I don't think I could handle marriage.
theblackwidow 30th-Nov-2012 05:10 pm (UTC)
Same TBH. I'm 23 and I've only ever had dysfunctional relationships.
