Look on the bright side, they've been getting a bit better over the years.

I for one am sort of stunned and impressed that it was comic book summertime sort of movie that spit out someone like Hiddleston ( I don;t know how you feel about him, but he ain't typical, that's for sure.) He seems like an arthouse/foreign movie/ anything opposite kiera knightley grade actor.

LOL the villain from Thor and The Avengers. Subject of intense ONTD love/ hate, second only to the Sherlock dude, I'm sure you'd know them if you saw a pic.

That's who ONTD thinks of when they think of ugly. The shade, the (hilarious) shade of it all.

I saw him in Midnight in Paris first so he never registers to me as being Loki, haha. mmmm, F. Scott Fitzgerald.
jazzypom actually, that's why the comic book movies have been better30th-Nov-2012 06:22 am (UTC)
Because actors can see the worth in them, it's a franchise that keeps your name out there, and the stories are relatively complex enough (this time around) to exercise your acting chops. NGL, for all the shade I throw at Nolan's way, it's his Batman Begins and with Christian Bale at the helm (well respected, well regarded actor) that kicked the genre up a few notches.

With British actors like Hiddleston, Fassbender, Hardy et al I think they look at Gary Oldman's career, and like how he mixes high brow and tent pole. High brow movies to show his versatility as an actor (Sid and Nancy), but then tent pole movies (Harry Potter, Batman Begins) to keep the money coming in, and get his face out there.

Like it or not, comic movies are a quick way for an actor to get his face out there, and kick himself up the ladder a few notches. Or in the case of someone who already has been lauded with accolades (like Scar Jo with her Tony - or Natalie Portman with her Oscar), it gets your face out there to the public who won't necessarily go to Broadway or 'worthy' movies.

I like the genre, I just wish it were more diverse. A lot more diverse.
