who is the Iron Patriot again?

in this movie Iron Patriot is apparently just Rhodey's War Machine armor with a super subtle paint job. Idk if we're even supposed to call it Iron Patriot are we?

apparently in the movie it's rhodey, but i think in the comics it was norman osborn

In the movie some how Rhodey's got it but comic canon has Tony make it for Steve but it gets stolen by Norman Osborn during these dark dark times I pretend never happen.

Tony never made it for Steve. Norman made it from an old suit.

I thought it was a contingency Tony had incase Extremis got out of hand? And Norman ended up with it when be ended up in charge of H.A.M.M.E.R. and since Norman is greedy and stupid he just added a bunch of other bits from other stuff in Tony's lab to the suit.

From what i remember, Norman kept trying to find something to tie all the Dark Avengers together and he realized it was Captain America who was the face of the Avengers. He created the Iron Patriot as a way to tie the images of Iron Man and Captain America together.

Oh Norman.

That's like a terrible idea. But then he's the same person who thought it was a good idea to put Venom on Thunderbolt. Do you know what ever happen with that?

Your both mixing up two different things.

Iron Patriot is a suit that Norman snatched and painted up as a means to represent Cap - since there was no way in hell his Dark Avengers was going to be able to have a villain stand-in for him (what with Bucky still out there being a badass)

Tony did make a suit for Steve long ago. And he programmed in an override for him, as well, that works on his suits in the offchance he was ever unable to pilot.

My brain does that going 1+2+4 1+1a=2a! It's a thing.

Thanks for clearing that up :D

I knew at one point Tony made Steve a suit I just didn't remember what happened to it.

ETA: For a "better" math reference.

In the comics, it was Norman Osborn when he made his own Dark Avengers after becoming head of SHIELD (which he dissolved and turned into his own organization, HAMMER)

Here, it's just a paint job on War Machine that's meant to be a nod to comic fans.

how did he become the head of SHIELD? and....wtf HAMMER?
dramatik_irony 30th-Nov-2012 05:20 am (UTC)
Well, I have to go back a little. There was the Secret Invasion storyline which essentially had Skrulls posing as various superheroes in order to take over Earth. During this, Tony Stark was head of SHIELD after the superhero civil war.

Now, before Secret Invasion, there was a group of reformed villains called the Thunderbolts. They were like the bootleg avengers but were officially sanctioned by the government. Well, before Secret Invasion, Norman Osborn is head of Thunderbolts because he convinced everyone that he's reformed.

OKAY, SO. During the big battle against the Skrulls, tv cameras basically show Norman making the kill shot to destroy the Skrull Queen, effectively winning the war against the Skrulls. The government decides that Tony Stark was useless as head of SHIELD and they fire him and make Norman head of SHIELD because America loves him for killing the last Skrull. Well, Norman's first act is to abolish SHIELD and make his own organization called HAMMER. The running joke during this is that no one knows what HAMMER stands for.

I hope this explains that!

Thread jumping BUT

Norman in charge of Thunderbolts KILLED ME. Some how it ruined my favorite series.

Also best recap I've seen in a while. Short and too the point.
