Katy Perry: I Feel Fat Without Spanx

Katy Perry has been called "The First Lady of Hot" by Maxim, but she doesn't always feel worthy of the title.

Us Weekly caught up with the "Part of Me" singer at the Nov. 28 UNICEF Snowflake Ball in New York City, where she and other celebs including Selena Gomez, Uma Thurman, Tony Bennett and Kelly Ripa walked the blue carpet and helped raise money for UNICEF'S lifesaving children's programs.

The pop star, 28, was stunning in a tight, floor-length, semi-sheer navy Naeem Khan dress with a matching cape, Guiseppi Zanotti heels, a Judith Leiber clutch, and Lorraine Schwartz jewels -- but she admitted she didn't feel as good as others thought she looked.

"I feel like my [fat] is sticking out so bad right now," she confided in Us at the bash. "I almost always wear [Spanx], but not tonight, and I feel it pushing out, making me look fat."

"I like to say I run on the elliptical for 30 minutes watching CNN, but I don't do it often enough," she added. "So I'm just like, 'Oh, I guess I'm not fitting into this Lanvin dress for these couple of months.'"

this is kind of ot, but as a fat person, i always wonder what it would be like if a thin person were to just wake up in a fat body one day and have to live like that for a while. i wonder if they would be able to handle actually being fat every day.

on the other hand, i have never felt fat because i have always been fat. and i am totally okay with being fat. maybe, in that respect, i have it easier than someone who worries about getting fat or feeling fat.
bananasnrum 30th-Nov-2012 03:55 am (UTC)
Agreed. I've always been big/considered plus size, but I don't feel like its a burden to my existence. I have accepted my size and do not let that shake my confidence- i don't diet, I just try and eat to stay healthy and exercise to get out stress - and according to blood tests and whatnot, I am healthy.
ankiem0e 30th-Nov-2012 04:12 am (UTC)
Raising my teacup to you, Hyacinth.

I have PCOS that started with puberty, so I've never really known what it's like NOT to be fat. Physiologically, I am a lot luckier than women who gain weight suddenly (one PCOS woman I know gained 100 lbs in a year and a half - oy! The toll it took on her, emotionally and physically!)

According to every medical scale except BMI, I am as healthy as a proverbial horse. I keep up with my cop friends at the gym and I eat way better than most people. I'm always going to be short and fat, but whatever. I feel sorry for people who worry about size more than health.
rediculouslyon 30th-Nov-2012 04:25 am (UTC)
i am in the same boat. fat and healthy. it still amazes me how some people, even doctors, can't believe and/or accept it.

cheers to us for being plus size and confident!

there was a Tyra episode like that!
between_lights 30th-Nov-2012 04:22 am (UTC)
I'm the same way. I'm a size 10 and while I'd love to be smaller, I don't feel terrible about my size or hate myself for my weight. but I really don't think a thin person who's been taught by society to fear/hate fatness could handle it at all.
peiyu 30th-Nov-2012 05:06 am (UTC)
I'm a US 8 which is considered fat where I am; took a few awkward teenage and adulthood years to accept my body and dress for it. Same period as when I was still slouching horribly because boobs and 5'6 is also considered tall and wearing heels bring an onslaught of "y u so tall u wear heels!!" accusations.

IA that because I have always been big, I don't fear getting any bigger. My friend on the other hand worries about it all the time, and that has to be tough.
xdecadentx 30th-Nov-2012 01:40 pm (UTC)
I remember and ONTD comment where someone said that being fat was her biggest fear and I was like '...'

TBH I'm the same, but I have PCOS and I would like to lose weight because it is supposed to help a lot with the symptoms, but I've never really 'hated' being fat.
chuk_is_dazzled 30th-Nov-2012 03:48 am (UTC)
i want to buy some spanx

ive lost like 15 pounds just from eating less and walking more. my classes are so far apart and i walk a lot-well for me-and i want to start walking more since a break is coming up and i dont want to gain more weight. im finally not winded from a flight of stairs! which is weird cause i wasnt overweight before, just unhealthy
peiyu 30th-Nov-2012 05:09 am (UTC)
I love walking (and lol running is only for those who are catching the bus or crazy)! I use a pedometer and give myself a daily target in terms of steps taken, and sometimes I would walk the long way round because it is fun for me.

Wear supportive shoes though. I have been wearing crappy flats while walking everywhere as a younger person, and I'm now in my late 20s with weak creaky knees and ankles, which is not fun when I walk.
jtaps 30th-Nov-2012 03:49 am (UTC)
I feel like when you get too used to wearing spanx, no matter how much you weigh, you'll feel fat without them.
underdog_ontop 30th-Nov-2012 03:49 am (UTC)
this new birth control i'm on is making me gain weight in only my stomach. i've gained a lot of muscle weight going to the gym but my stomach is just not cooperating.
khlassique 30th-Nov-2012 03:59 am (UTC)
that's like my body, except all of the time :(

it's a pain because it would probably go away if i weighed like 100 pounds but hell no, i enjoy food too much.
kidviciousdonna 30th-Nov-2012 04:38 am (UTC)
I wish I knew if my birth control was doing that. I've always been flubby there, and now I'm losing weight...it'll be interesting to see if it stays with my bc or goes
stellar_ball 30th-Nov-2012 03:49 am (UTC)
I really don't get the big deal about Spanx. I have some, and it's nice to have to smooth things out, but it's not like it magically makes you 2 sizes smaller.
deftonedpiano 30th-Nov-2012 03:50 am (UTC)
OT but does anyone have a cologne recommendation for my 28 year old boyfriend who is kind of, um, not fancy in that regard, but he haves Moves Him by Adidas and it smells really good on him and I'd like something in that neighborhood please and thanks.
forevergold217 30th-Nov-2012 03:55 am (UTC)
Lacoste essential.

Every time I smell a man wearing this I literally have to stop myself from marching over and giving him a great big kiss

sookehhh 30th-Nov-2012 03:51 am (UTC)
I've decided to stop eating after dinner unless it's an apple or something like that, and I realized that saves me like 300-500 calories daily.
tadashee 30th-Nov-2012 03:54 am (UTC)
Not eating after 7 is golden! You just make bad choices late at night. I was so good this week but I pulled an all mightier yesterday and ate pizza bagels, diet coke ad a crunch bat at 1 am. I was so disgusted with myself today.
sookehhh 30th-Nov-2012 04:54 am (UTC)
That is so me if I'm up late studying. Eating keeps me awake ish
everythngintime 30th-Nov-2012 03:56 am (UTC)
So true. For me it's not eating dinner sooo late at night like I used to. Makes a
huge difference.
julietislimited 30th-Nov-2012 03:59 am (UTC)
last night after dinner I have 2 pb&j sandwiches and...a whole lot of other stuff. its a good idea but you've got to have control. good luck bb!
loaded___gun 30th-Nov-2012 04:17 am (UTC)
i try to do this.. i find it help to brush my teeth for the night very early on, because i don't want to brush them again after eating.
xdecadentx 30th-Nov-2012 01:41 pm (UTC)
That's where I need to stop. I snack at like 11pm and I'm like 'why?'
unclesamonmars 1st-Dec-2012 05:22 am (UTC)
I eat the majority of my daily calories at 12 am or later. I get off work at 10-11pm so it's hard not to since it's the only time of day I can eat and relax at home instead of thinking about what I have to do afterwards.
hoot 1st-Dec-2012 09:01 pm (UTC)
I've done intermittent fasting before (where you eat during a shorter time frame — I usually ate between noon and 6) and I dropped so much weight so fast without too much effort.
helders 30th-Nov-2012 03:52 am (UTC)
i've been experiencing this lately. my boyfriend feeds me VERY well and he's an amazing cook. i tell him he's secretly trying to make me gain weight, even though i know he isn't and just enjoys cooking for me. we eat pretty healthy, but we love cheese/bread/dessert.

i'm convinced i have this gut that came out of nowhere and everyone can see it. today i did two classes at the gym and for the first time REALLY PUT MY ALL into those crunches/bicycles. i felt the burn. i wanted to die. i loved it.

oh and i don't have any desire to use spanx. it creates an illusion and i like to know what i am working with/need to work on.

I feel so pissed off at myself. I;ve lost about 16 pounds and i weighed myself this mornign only to find that I've gained back 4-5 pounds. That may not sound like a lot but I lost those pounds through weeks of starvation(uninentional) and tears
thishollywood Re: weight loss/healthy eating thread?30th-Nov-2012 03:59 am (UTC)
If u lost it thru starving ur prob going 2 gain it back a lot faster than if u lost it regular. Idk why but that is just how it is
forevergold217 Re: weight loss/healthy eating thread?30th-Nov-2012 04:05 am (UTC)
Yeah I realize that :/ That's why I decided to start eating clean once my gastritis cleared up
hawaii_bombay Re: weight loss/healthy eating thread?30th-Nov-2012 04:19 am (UTC)
I had lost around 24 lbs; I've been gaining weight but I don't know how much because I refuse to step on the scale :/
voyevoda Re: weight loss/healthy eating thread?30th-Nov-2012 04:30 am (UTC)
Those 4-5 could be bloat and water weight, bb, don't lose your optimism. Rely on measurements more than the stupid lying liar of a scale.
peiyu Re: weight loss/healthy eating thread?30th-Nov-2012 05:13 am (UTC)
Wait for your metabolism to get back properly; after starvation it is fucked and now everything you put in you counts.

If needed, gain the weight back first and lose it with purpose and healthily. Weight loss tend to stay lost that way.

athwartship Re: weight loss/healthy eating thread?30th-Nov-2012 05:26 am (UTC)
i lost about 15 lbs. I haven't weighed myself recently but I had been eating poorly and not exercising for about 2.5 months. By how my clothes fit I'm guessing I gained a few pounds, but no more than 5. Controlling my eating is the hardest thing, but I just try to watch my carbs, cut out milk, eat more apples, and allow myself one small dessert at lunch/dinner. And eat a lottt of protein.

slacker_chic 30th-Nov-2012 03:53 am (UTC)
I'm sorry but when women as beautiful and obviously fit as her say shit like this is makes her seem like she has body dysmorphia or something. She can feel her fat sticking out? Gurl, you HAVE NO FAT. And if that's fat, what does it make the rest of us?
cherie_001 30th-Nov-2012 03:56 am (UTC)
Shut the fuck up Katy
supermishelle 30th-Nov-2012 03:57 am (UTC)
I have spanx and honestly I love them. Not because I feel fat but more because I just like the feeling of being squeezed. I wear corsets too. Idk how to explain. I just like to be squeezed.
