I wasn't in the loop when it came time to upgrade, I regret that now because I could have gotten my iPhone and still kept my unlimited plan. I'm hanging on to my unlimited plan for as long as I can even if that means using a crappy BB. My fiance agrees with you on paying wholesale for the phone, he hates cell phone companies which is why he refuses to get a smartphone and uses an old motorola razor.
