Marvel has lined up an impressive list of possibilities for the lead role of Peter Quill in their upcoming superhero epic "Guardians of the Galaxy."
An intergalactic spin on "The Avengers," "Guardians" follows a team of alien superheroes who fight to protect the solar system from evil. Their leader, Peter Quill, is half-human and half-alien, and landing the role would be a major score for any actor.
Deadline reports that the list of names Marvel is seriously considering includes former "Pushing Daisies" star Lee Pace (now onscreen in "Lincoln" and "Breaking Dawn Part 2"), Jim Sturgess ("Cloud Atlas"), Jack Huston ("Boardwalk Empire"), Eddie Redmayne ("Les Miserables") and Joel Edgerton ("Zero Dark Thirty"). Garrett Hedlund ("TRON: Legacy"), James Marsden ("X-Men") and Sullivan Stapleton ("Strike Back") are also rumored to be in the running.
The Guardians have actually been known to work with Iron Man, Hulk and the rest, so the "Guardians" film is envisioned as another expansion of the The Avengers universe (as is Joss Whedon's still-in-the-works ABC pilot "S.H.I.E.L.D.").
