Watch the New Zealand Red Carpet of The Hobbit LIVE

Today, The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey premieres in Wellington, New Zealand, like the Lord of the Rings trilogy before it. The first-third of Peter Jackson's new Middle Earth adaptation will get the full red carpet treatment, and though most of us can't skip down to New Zealand to take a peek, we can all watch the proceedings online, live as they happen.

The livestream of The Hobbit premiere kicks off at 6:50 pm Pacific Standard Time, so check back here this evening and give them embed below a click.

Just yesterday we saw the latest production video blog for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey. That video covered the mad dash through the last days of post-production, as everyone at Weta endeavored to get the film finished in time for this premiere. Presumably, everyone seen in that video is high from not sleeping and preparing to get champagne drunk tonight.

Champagne drunkenness may or may not be evident during the livestream, but the premiere will definitely include red carpet shenanigans, Jackson and his fellow filmmakers being gracious, and even Neil Finn performing "Song of the Lonely Mountain," An Unexpected Journey's closing song.

So we'll see you here around 6:50 pm PST, right?

The film is, of course, the first in a trilogy adapting J.R.R. Tolkien's first novel set in Middle Earth. What was initially meant to be a two-part take on the novel is now three movies, with The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug and The Hobbit: There and Back Again set for next December and July 2014, respectively.
