BBC keeps with tradition, releases horribly photoshopped Doctor Who promo

The newest promotional poster for this year's Doctor Who Christmas special, "The Snowmen", has been released.

Synopsis from the BBC:
Starring Matt Smith as the Doctor and introducing Jenna-Louise Coleman as Clara, his new companion, this year’s Christmas Special is called The Snowmen and follows their adventures as they battle the villainous Doctor Simeon (Richard E Grant) and his army of sinister snowmen.

The prequel to the episode and its official trailer were released November 17, for Children in Need. "The Snowmen" will air on BBC1 on Christmas Day.

What do you think, ONTD? I think it's horrible in that very special way only BBC photoshop can be, but I'm excited to meet Clara.

So theories about how they're gonna explain Oswin/Clara being the same actress?
stoicana 27th-Nov-2012 12:40 am (UTC)
Wait....you mean she's supposed to be playing a different character? I'm so lost.
anchors_oceans 27th-Nov-2012 12:43 am (UTC)
related. just like gwen and gwyneth from "the unquiet dead." that's fine with me.
fauxkaren 27th-Nov-2012 12:44 am (UTC)
Timey wimey bullshit.
jackiemust_die 27th-Nov-2012 12:46 am (UTC)
i don't think there will be an explanation?
like the same thing with Freema being in the S2 ending and then being the companion in S3.
Gwen Cooper was explained at the end of S4, right? She was in an episode in S1

The difference is they cast Karen and Freema in those roles before they cast them as companions. They cast JLC as Oswin AFTER casting her as the new companion. So even if the characters are totally unrelated (which I doubt), it was at best a publicity stunt, unlike Freema and Karen.
fauxkaren 27th-Nov-2012 12:53 am (UTC)
Yeah, it was AT LEAST a publicity stunt. But if it turns out that is all it was, I will be annoyed because that is just really cheap.

But it probably goes a lot deeper than that.
ladysophiekitty 27th-Nov-2012 12:51 am (UTC)
Yeah, except when Freema was in it they didn't know she'd be the companion yet. JLC had already been cast as Clara when she made her appearance as Oswin, so it was intentional and not, "Oh hey, I actually like you! Let's give you a bigger part!"

anchors_oceans 27th-Nov-2012 12:51 am (UTC)
like another poster said, i don't think that will be the case because jenna-louise was cast as a companion and THEN filmed the dalek episode. the previous people (eve, freema, karen) were cast as random people (gwyneth, cyber girl, soothsayer) and THEN cast as main characters (gwen, martha, amy.) they already knew she was going to be a companion when they filmed the daleks.

edit: oops lol i guess everyone's on the same page.

I'm sticking with my theory she's a time lord.

Then again my theories are usually wrong.
hateistoodark 27th-Nov-2012 12:58 am (UTC)
Bullshit that doesn't make sense.
x_rose_tyler_x 27th-Nov-2012 12:59 am (UTC)
Someone has said that maybe it's the same person stuck in different time periods for some reason. I don't know how they could work that out.
hannahstarr 27th-Nov-2012 03:46 am (UTC)
someone suggested to me that they are the same person but somehow the Oswin character is the end of Clara's life. I hope that's not true though because then she would just be another River
