Lindsay Lohan Devastated By 'Liz & Dick' Criticism, Say Sources

Friends say Lindsay Lohan wasn't prepared for the harsh criticism of her Lifetime movie "Liz & Dick." And instead of providing the career comeback the troubled star expected, her performance has left many wondering if she will ever be taken seriously as an actress again.

“Lindsay is devastated by the response to the film,” a close friend of the actress tells The Huffington Post. “She has got used to all the negative press around her personal life but this is the first time she has experienced it about her work. No matter how bad things were going for her personally, everyone would always agree that she was a great actress.”

The Hollywood Reporter compared the Lifetime drama to a "Saturday Night Live" skit. The New York Times accused the actress of “sleepwalking through scenes,” while Entertainment Weekly made fun of Lohan’s “frozen face” and “blank stare.”

“Lindsay has already read her own press,” one insider tells me. “She knew the script wasn't strong but thought she would bring the role of Elizabeth to life. This is particularly heartbreaking as her acting was the only thing in her life that she knew was real. Now she is doubting that, too.”

Lifetime and Lindsay’s spokesperson did not respond to calls for comment.

After receiving a series of harsh reviews for her performance as Elizabeth Taylor in the Lifetime biopic (The Hollywood Reporter called it "half train wreck, half SNL skit), the 26-year-old starlet's Chateau Marmont pal is sticking up for her famous friend.

"@lindsaylohan you did a beautiful job on Liz & Dick, Let no one bring u down, Liz didnt, they always try to knock the greats down a few pegs," the "Born This Way" singer tweeted Monday.

‏"@ladygaga thank you so much!," the comebacking actress posted in response. "You are such an incredible force and that means the world to me :) love & hugs xo hope to see you soon bella."

Hyperbolic article aside, it's laughable that Lindsay seemed to genuinely believe that this flop movie would catapult her back to fame/relevance.

With hang-ons and yes people telling her that this would be what would catapult her back to fame, of course she would. No one is willing to tell her "Stop" or give her harsh criticisms in real life.

man, if I was a celebrity, I'd be all over the internet just so I knew how people really thought of me

Ikr? Every time I'd finish a project, my first question would always be "BUT WHAT DOES ONTD THINK?"

Without a doubt; I'd like to know the good and the bad even if I don't want to hear it since it is the only way I will get better.

this whole thing was a mess. from the script to the credits. if the director didn't tell her she was doing a bad job, i can understand her being upset about seeing those reviews.

she prob hoped that the public would shift their feelings for liz on to her. suddenly lilo would be glamorous and omg iconic! everyone loves liz so just pretend you're liz & problem solved.

I was under the impression that she did it as a stepping stone. Like, proving that she can handle taking on a big project.

Yes, exactly - I seriously, seriously doubt that she or anyone around her thought this was going to be a big comeback. This was her proving she is reliable enough to complete a project without fucking up. I haven't seen the movie but by all accounts she showed up to work, did an OK acting job, brought a ton of publicity, and did a good job on the media rounds.

I think she is definitely more likely to be given a decent role now. She won't be cherry-picking from the top, but companies won't be terrified to go anywhere near her any more. I reckon there are people out there interested in working with her who would have been too wary before Liz & Dick.
