Jarvis Cocker: 'There won't be any more new Pulp music'

Jarvis Cocker has said there won't be any new Pulp material.

When asked by Q if the band would be writing any new music, Cocker replied: "No, it was a big enough challenge to learn how to play all the old songs and, hopefully, perform them in a convincing way. It also means you aren't trying to flog anything to anyone – then you have to do interviews and convince people they have to go and but this new record as well! It was kinda nice not to have to do that."

Pulp are set to play a Christmas homecoming show in Sheffield on December 8. When asked if there will be any future shows beyond that, he replied: "We haven't got anything planned after the New Year… we'll just be cruising off into the sunset. Seems poetic. Not wishing to make a big deal, but we've played for a while and it's been really good, but you can't keep doing that forever. Will you see Pulp again? Who knows. I'm not stoking those particular rumours."

Earlier this year, Cocker told NME that he wasn't sure whether the band would record any new material. Talking about the run of shows after the band's 2010 reformation, he said: "I suppose once you've done that, the next thing is; would you make some new music? I've enjoyed the fact that we haven't been doing any new stuff, because I feel that's kept it quite simple. It's hard one. We haven't been in the studio or anything. I don't know what will happen in the future."
