These Has-Been Celebrities Still Charge Staggering Fees Per Appearance

new-kids-on-the-block

Even celebrities who are past their prime charge a ton of money. Speaking engagements, private performances or simple appearances can bring in hundreds of thousands of dollars.

Celebrity Talent International is an agency that represents huge stars like Adele, Elton John and Angelina Jolie, booking appearances for these stars and hundreds more. Many of the appearance fees are listed on CTI's website and are shockingly high. Celebrities don't necessarily receive the full amount, but the fees are guidelines for what they expect.

Decades after 90210 made her famous, Shannen Doherty is still asking for a ton of money. Same for former musician/reality stars like Clay Aiken and Bret Michaels. And you won't believe what the former Mr. Britney Spears charges.

1. Shannen Doherty charges more than $100,000 per appearance.
Doherty's peak was about 20 years ago when she starred as mean girl Brenda on "Beverly Hills 90210." She's had a few gigs since, but nothing notable in the past couple years.

2. Roseanne Barr still demands $100,000 per appearance.
Roseanne is famous for her sitcom that ran from 1988 through 1997. Since then, her career has dried up. Her Lifetime reality show "Roseanne's Nuts" was cancelled after one season.

3. Clay Aiken charges between $100,000 and $150,000 per speaking gig.
Aiken was the runner-up on "American Idol" in 2003. Since then, he's had a few songs on the radio. But he still has a lucrative speaking career.

4. Creed charges a minimum of $150,000 per appearance.
The band, which sings "Take Me Higher" and "Arms Wide Open," hasn't had a big hit since the early 2000's. Still, it charges a hefty fee.

5. Moby charges more than $150,000.
Moby is credited with popularizing dance music in the 1990's. But it's been years since he's had a hit on the mainstream charts.

6. Toni Braxton charges between $150,000 and $250,000.
The Grammy-winning "Unbreak My Heart" singer must be hard-up for gigs--she recently filed for bankruptcy.

7. Bret Michaels charges somewhere between $150,000 and $250,000.
Michael's peak days as the lead singer of Poison are long behind him. But Michaels found a new generation of fans through the reality series "The Rock Of Love" on VH1.

8. Orlando Bloom's booking fee starts at around $200,000.
Orlando Bloom found fame 10 years ago when he starred in "Lord Of The Rings" and "Pirates Of The Caribbean." However, he hasn't been in a hit movie in years. Perhaps his role in the upcoming movie "The Hobbit" will give his career a boost.

9. The All-American Rejects charge a minimum of around $200,000.
The All-American Rejects won the hearts of teenage girls everywhere with their eponymous and "Move Along" albums. The band hasn't been on the charts in quite some time, but it still costs a lot to book them.

10. Avril Lavigne charges about $250,000.
Lavigne's "Let Go" album was a smash hit back in 2003, while her subsequent albums flopped. Today, Lavigne is working on a comeback record.

11. Duran Duran charges more than $250,000 per appearance.
Duran Duran continues to ride off its success in the 1980's, when it was one of the leading bands in the world. Longtime fans are loyal to the group, and they are priced accordingly.

12. Evanescence still charges a minimum of more than $250,000 per performance.
The band is best-known for lead singer Amy Lee, who had a couple of hits in the early 2000's. The goth-metal band still charges a ton of money for a performance, though.

13. Ben Harper still garners around $300,000 per appearance.
Harper's been around the music industry for more than 20 years, but hasn't had a hit in years. He's lent his voice to activism instead of singing, but his appearance fee doesn't reflect that.

14. Keanu Reeves is listed in the range of $250,000 to $350,000 per appearance.
Reeves' career reached its peak after he starred in the "Matrix" series. Maybe his success as an internet meme contributed to his high booking fee.

15. Kevin Federline expects more than $300,000.
The former Mr. Britney Spears has a very high fee. For the same price, you could get Leonardo DiCaprio.

16. Sarah McLachlan also charges between $250,000 and $350,000 per appearance.
The Canadian singer had her heyday back in the 1990's. She's produced music since then, but nothing with a lot of commercial success.

17. Hilary Duff charges a minimum of $500,000.
As a teen, Duff starred in the Disney series "Lizzie McGuire" and a few movies. She also had a few successful albums a decade ago. Since then, Duff has focused on writing books and raising a young son.

18. New Kids On The Block charge $500,000 per appearance.
The boy band, which sold 80 million records in the 1980's and 1990's, but then fell out of the public eye. The original members still perform together.

...did they just call Keanu Reeves a 'has-been'.

this is why sad Keanu is sad.
jello404 26th-Nov-2012 04:14 am (UTC)
The thing about Keanu...I dont see him as a has been.I see him as a "I dont want to be mainstream". Like he does a few odd jobs here and there but over all he enjoys being private.
anivad 26th-Nov-2012 04:18 am (UTC)
yeah; he's said before that if he had his way, he'd do nothing but little indie films, because he loves those best. But his agent and Hollywood kept trying to get him to do big blockbuster things. Now that his Matrix fame has sort of waned, he's finally getting to do the stuff he really wants - he produced the documentary Side by Side, which got great critical acclaim (more than his acting ever has); and his directorial debut Man of Tai Chi (which will be mostly in Chinese) is slated for release next year. He's also been working on scripts, like Passengers, which he did with Jon Spaihts and is one of the best scripts I've ever read.

In recent interviews he seems really happy with where his career is now, which somewhat counters the idea of a has-been.

I agree. I never really got the hype over the Matrix movies and feel like he's been more impressive in other roles.

And I feel like Street Kings/his performance in that was way underrated considering that's an action sort of mainstream type.
theblackwidow 26th-Nov-2012 04:44 am (UTC)
I love Keanu
bohemianvixen 26th-Nov-2012 05:01 am (UTC)

vulpineways 26th-Nov-2012 01:11 pm (UTC)

The whole argument is invalid.

creed and evanescence

just

I didn't know red neck boymen and behind-the-times mall goth teens could afford those fees
professor_chaos 26th-Nov-2012 04:11 am (UTC)
Duran Duran are the only ones that do not qualify as has-beens. The rest are pretty accurate
thesuzylee 26th-Nov-2012 04:24 am (UTC)
gurl, when compared to Depeche Mode they are a joke.
l_ecumedesjours 26th-Nov-2012 04:39 am (UTC)
That's not a very fair comparison. Duran Duran will never be Depeche Mode (and really now, who could?), but that hardly makes them on par with the rest of this list.
andromakhe001 26th-Nov-2012 05:09 am (UTC)
I'm sorry but why? Whether you like them or not is really besides the point. They've never been "cool" unlike Depeche Mode, which IMO makes their continuance even more heartening. They were the band that was never supposed to last, nothing but a bunch of pretty boys(who wrote all their own songs and played all their own instruments). They were always an act that was mocked by the music press and by the "cool kids", but they've continued on, sometimes succeeding and sometimes failing, doing what they do.

They continue to make new albums, they continue to tour on their own(unlike some 80's acts, they mostly don't play many festivals and they don't do those group tours with a couple of acts from the same era co-headlining or a few doing shortened sets--which means their shows fall or succeed completely on them). Even if Depeche Mode plays to bigger crowds, it doesn't mean Duran Duran are a joke. They've played arenas within the last year and a half, that means they aren't doing too badly IMO.

lol I'm no Avril stan, but I follow her casually when she has music out. Her 2nd and 3rd albums were hardly flops, and Goodbye Lullaby is a decent album regardless - her label told her it would flop and she didn't care...
fionaapple 26th-Nov-2012 04:26 am (UTC)
Seriously. I think Under my Skin and the 3rd CD went to #1 on the charts for a couple weeks.
hypermuseic9 26th-Nov-2012 04:13 am (UTC)
whattttt Keanu does not belong on this list. bye
jello404 26th-Nov-2012 04:16 am (UTC)
I said the same thing above. He doesnt seem like he wants to be in the spotlight,Im sure he could be if he wanted to.But he obviously doesnt.
fireprince 26th-Nov-2012 04:18 am (UTC)
I said that too, He was apart of a billion dollar franchise ffs. He forever has SOME status, like Mark Hamil.
anivad XD26th-Nov-2012 04:21 am (UTC)
...and people will forever be spelling his name wrong, like Mark Hamill. :|

jello404 26th-Nov-2012 04:17 am (UTC)
lmfao bitch you cold
anitakkkat 26th-Nov-2012 04:20 am (UTC)
I would pay the $300,000 for Zachary Quinto tho. If I wasn't poor of course.
theactualworst 26th-Nov-2012 04:39 am (UTC)
I'd demand he give me money to pay for therapy I'm going to need after being in his presence.
fireprince 26th-Nov-2012 04:16 am (UTC)
When I saw Kevin Federline I damn near feel off my bed. When has anyone EVER paid him for an appearance anywhere? And Hilary Duff $500,000? Really bitch..... REALLY?!?!?
handsdowntoo 26th-Nov-2012 04:17 am (UTC)
I know. Hillary is famous for her walking posts on ONTD. I haven't seen her do anything else in years.
vanishingbee 26th-Nov-2012 04:27 am (UTC)
I feel like it's there just to send the message that he doesn't want to make appearances, but if you pay him that much (want him that much) he'll show up.
plugmebaby 26th-Nov-2012 12:59 pm (UTC)
i feel like thats the case with hilary duff. she never seemed into fame anyway
aurorab0realis 26th-Nov-2012 02:06 pm (UTC)
Everyone and everything has a price I guess. Like the person below said about kfed, maybe she's not bothered with it but if you pay a shit load of money (as in 500k) then she will turn up.
asherlev1 26th-Nov-2012 04:17 am (UTC)
Some of these aren't that shocking. Idk.
hershelwalker 26th-Nov-2012 04:17 am (UTC)
I think creed, above all, needs a reality check.
vampireweekend 26th-Nov-2012 04:18 am (UTC)
